How to convince my dad to let me get a tank at his house??

Simply a counter argument to the notion of "boring." Not an actual, linear comparison.

How to convince my dad to let me get a tank at his house??

Ha! Nice one. Also, piggybacking on the first reply, regarding the logic of "boring"; It also stands to reason that you could gain some leverage on that one with, "Boring? Really? Is that why the Monterey Bay Aquarium pulls in about $45,000,000 per year, on admission alone?" Mind you, that...

    Killer deal on craigslist!

Craigslist is the land of many joys. About three weeks ago I picked up a 50 gal, with stand, gravel, air pump, slate, driftwood, hoses, hoods & lights for $65.

Want to get rid of snails

For smaller snails, I've discovered that kuhli loaches eat those things like popcorn. I had a explosion of snails, that must have hitchhiked on plant. I introduced four kuhli loaches not long after, and those snails became nothing more than little decorative shells within a week and a half.

Tell People The Truth About Bettas

A lot of good points made here. Sadly, people often will disregard the thoughts & experiences of younger people. Sadly, they will also disregard the thoughts & experiences of peers & elders. In fact. lots of people will just disregard, out of hand, anything that doesn't fit their immediate...

Yucky tank in a university office- what should i do?

This might be exactly the wrong thing, but my approach would be to simply say, "What's with the tank? It's a mess." And go from there. It's neither overly confrontational, nor overly polite.

Help! My Serpae Have Turned Violent!

I absolutely agree, and that is part of the revised plan. Thanks again to everyone for their advice.

Help! My Serpae Have Turned Violent!

In theory I could. I'm going to see about setting up a new tank, and a temporary new habitat for them first (I've been slowly planning a new tank anyway, and transferring them to that new tank had always been a part of that plan), but if I can't make that happen today then I will probably head...

Help! My Serpae Have Turned Violent!

It may well be that I have only two. Someone on CraigsList did give me a rather clever bit of advice. He suggested I use a tupperware container, with holes poked throughout, as a temporary isolation floater.

Help! My Serpae Have Turned Violent!

Let's just start out with the part where I'm a big dummy & don't have a second tank. Now that we've gotten that cleared up, It turns out that my serpae have gone from being a bit of a nuisance to being dangerous. They've always been a bit territorial, but today I discovered that they've injured...

Keep your fingers out of the tank

Oh yes... any sort of mind alteration in the vicinity of farm animals leads to poor decision making. Once, with a head full of fungus, I decided that I was going to take a nap with some sheep. They did not take to the idea. Fortunately nothing nearby was electrified, but I never did get that...

Keep your fingers out of the tank

Honestly, I thinks it's more about stubborn than anything. Not to lump the psychology of all men into one basket, but we do have a tendency to refuse to take anyone else's word for it. We have to find out for ourselves. Especially if it might be painful.

Keep your fingers out of the tank

Now, I'm the kind of idiot who would put my fingers in, just once, just to see how bad it was. I was the sort of kid who would put my fingers up to earwigs & crabs, lick 9 volt batteries, pee on electric fences, etc., because I had to know for sure. In a way, that tendency has not changed. By...

It's not a Mystery Snail, but the snail is a mystery...

Haven't added any plants in a couple of months. Come to think of it, the last plant I added was the java moss, a couple of months back (doubtless I would have noticed hitchhikers in the java moss), and before that it was the plants I put in, all at once, before introducing fish. (& thanks for...

It's not a Mystery Snail, but the snail is a mystery...

Absolutely bizarre. Tanks been running for months, no new props in the tank, one new layer of substrate probably three months ago, and this little freak just hiding out. Probably part of some fundamentalist splinter cell, waiting in the gravel for the right moment to pop out & take hostages...

It's not a Mystery Snail, but the snail is a mystery...

It's been a few weeks since I last added any new critters to my tank, yet when I turned the light on this morning I discovered a brand-new, never-before-seen trumpet snail sucking on the front glass. Anyone have any idea how this happened?
