Unexpected guest. I need a crash course in with Beta Fish.

Awesome thanks for the advice. So the one unanswered question was can I just use treated tap water if I have plants in the tank? Oop, and also how often do I feed betas? I got some "Beta color enhancing pellet food." Is this good enough for him or will he require something of better quality?

Unexpected guest. I need a crash course in with Beta Fish.

Awesome thanks for the advice. Yeah I have plenty of PFS left over from when I had to break my tank down. I already have a 10g so I'll just toss him in there. Couple other questons I thought of: How often do I need to change the water in the tank with plants? Can I just treat the water with...

Unexpected guest. I need a crash course in with Beta Fish.

So, I came home last night to a beta fish in a jar sitting on my desk. Since I had to break down my 75g salt water tank (new apartment wont allow fish tanks larger then 10g :(), she thought this guy is something I'd want. Little did she know I am against beta fish all together. I feel bad for...

So, my new apartment doesn't allow fish tanks any larger then 10 gallons... Anyway, just wondering what am I going to expect as far as a 10 gallon. How often do am I going to have to do water changes, how much on average are lighting for a reef tank light setup, how many fish am I looking at...

    Fishless Cycle and Test Kits

How long does the Fishless cycle usually last in a tank around 75g? Also, will SW Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite test kits work on a FW tank?

    Coraline algae and FW tanks

So, its actually GOOD having keeping some of it in the tank? lol

    Coraline algae and FW tanks

OK so i finished breaking down my 75g SW tank, and turning it into a FW cichlid tank. My question is, I couldnt get all of the coraline algae scraped out of the tank. I was afraid to hit some of the sealant in the corners. Will the little coraline algae pose any problems later down the road?

    Water and Substrate

TBH I'm not sure. There is a guy near me who is a Cichlid only dealer. Claims he all his fish are "F1" and the ebst fish your going to get in the area. I'm not sure what kind they are, but they are pretty pricey. I'm talking minimum $6 for the small ones. Usually they are between $10-$15 per...

    Water and Substrate

Ok so in a chichlid tank, what is overall a better substrate to go with, gravel, or sand? Also, for water, am I going to be using tap water with dechlorinator, or is there something special I should be throwing in there as well.

    Fluval FX5 vs A Sump

Question I guess Im trying to ask is that if LR works the same in a FW tank as a SW tank. If so, then I think that a sump would be a better option just for the water volume factor, and throwing some carbon in there. If I use a canister, wouldnt me having LR in the tank and the media in the...

    Fluval FX5 vs A Sump

Thanks for the info. Yeah I called around and I can get a sump + 800gph return pump for about $150. The FX5 is, like I said, $200. If its cheaper, and better, would rather do that lol. Plus, not like i'll need bioballs or anything. I'll have about 100lbs of base rock that will become LR...

    Fluval FX5 vs A Sump

So on my 75g, which one would you rather have? Probably going to have between 20-30 fish. 20-25 if possible, but in case of aggression issues, I want to have a filter that can cope with that many fish if necessary.

    Fluval FX5 vs A Sump

    75g African Substrate

Whats pfs? lol If I rinse the sand from my salt water tank really good, can I use that or should I just buy new sand?

Coming from Salt Water to Fresh Water

One more thing too lol! Can I even reuse the stuff out of my SW tank? Like Rock, Sand, Power heads and stuff? What would be the process for drying out my LR and making it ready to use in a fresh water tank

Coming from Salt Water to Fresh Water

Awesome series of vids. Pretty much answered almost all my questions but one... Is there such thing as too much flow? I've got two pretty beefy powerheads.

Coming from Salt Water to Fresh Water

So, I need to unfortunately take my current 75 SW aquarium, and revert it back to a FW aquarium. I'm going to do an African Cichlid tank. Is it the same principles as a salt water tank? Equipment: -Powerhead -Sump or Canister Filter -Heater -Sand -Live Rock (Well I'm going to be turning my...

    Cleaning a used sump

So whats the proper way to go about cleaning a used glass sump. It has this thin white layer of film on it (assuming its salt residue). I tried using a razor and water. It works, but barely. Would take WAY to long to do the entire thing. I didnt want to use any cleaning solutions but I might...
