    Official Tank Build Thread

Alright... update.... After going through problem after problem with my RODI unit, I managed to get the tank filled... added sand after that and learned a hard lesson... no matter what the $%$%$# bag says, rinse the sand... 3 days AFTER adding sand... the sump during that time...

A rubber duckie huh? Hadn't thought of that idea, but I might steal it. Well, since my updates on this board have been lacking, here goes... I picked up my glass yesterday and got it installed... of course it being the first sump I've built, I measured three times, yet somehow one of my...

    Official Tank Build Thread

Well... I hit a few snags on the way - mostly I ran out of money, but I'm back on track and after selling a bit of stuff, I got the money to finish my project. In the last four months, I've managed to pick up *almost* everything I need... Equipment list is as follows: 120g Marineland with...

cost of a salt water tank

When my wife first said she wanted a tank, we looked at a 46g bowfront... After visiting the LFS, she decided she wanted a 120g... So, we purchased the tank, a stand, and a matching canopy to go with it. I researched lights (LED) for a couple months and ended up buying a set at around $1700...

    Koralia Evo's

Anyone have any experience with these or controllers they work best with? I found a smoking deal on these at my LFS here that was too good to pass up, so I picked up two of the 1400's today.

    Official Tank Build Thread

It's been a while since I put anything in here... mostly because there was nothing to add other than a couple things I picked up for the tank while waiting on the stand to be completed... Still looking like another month or so before I put water into the tank since I'm paying cash as I go - and...

    LED lighting=MH?

You're not the only one... I still gotta drop another $869 for a slave unit... luckily they're going to hold one for me (out of this shipment) after I leave a deposit, so I won't have to wait another 2 months ...

pump that can move water from bucket to tank???

Sorry...I stand corrected yet again. I used information from a google search... stated water at 1.024 SG was ~11 lbs.... freakin' google and it's non-truthfulness :) Still, it weighs too much for me to try to lift.

    LED lighting=MH?

Wouldn't happen to be Manhatten Reef would it? ;) I thought the shipment wasn't expected until Monday of next week.

    LED lighting=MH?

How are you pulling that off - I'm not expecting mine for another week - or did you order yours individually from the Euro site? Let me know what you come up with. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to work mine into my canopy. As for the person that asked for the site it's...

pump that can move water from bucket to tank???

I should also point out that this is for pure freshwater... I forgot to take into account the dissolved salts in the water, bringing the total to around 11 lbs per gallon ;) (at 1.022 sg) It's those little things that are always screwing me up - I most likely would have remembered if I was...

pump that can move water from bucket to tank???

Well... the reason that isn't really an option for larger WC's... or even smaller ones for that matter... 8.8 lbs per gallon of water x 10g = 88 lbs... and that's for just 10 gallons... Now, I don't consider myself a weakling by any means, but I'll be looking forward to 30g waterchanges...

    Building my own Refugium

From what I've read - I'm thinking the suspended sand is for a plenum in his DSB. I was also considering doing this myself in a fuge seperate from the sump.

    Good Skimmer/Price?

Here is the one I picked up: Reef Octopus Extreme 200 Protein Skimmer by CoralVue* - AquaCave Like I said, I found an online coupon and got hooked up with free shipping on top of that... I'd love to post some pics of it - as soon as my tank, stand, canopy, sump, lights, and skimmer show up...

    Good Skimmer/Price?

I picked up a Octopus Extreme 200 from them about a week or so ago - they had the best pricing on the internet that I could find.... It cost me about $100 more than the one you linked to... I figured for an eventual reef tank, the Extreme 200 (which is going in a 120g w/ sump and fuge) would...

Important information for anyone new.. please read :)

Ahhhh... the PIT maneuver is easy.... driving is the hard part... ex. PIT - purposely steer into another car and push it off the road Driving - try not to get steered into or pushed off the road by the 45637454 morons texting, doing makeup, eating a burger, reading a book, playing with...

Important information for anyone new.. please read :)

This is a good read before anyone starts preparing for a fish tank. I started reading up sometime in November. Purchasing parts began in December. I still don't have everything I think I need (and obviously those things that I don't know I need yet). On that point - if you research like you...

    Official Tank Build Thread

So after payday this week, I've added the following: Octopus 200 Extreme skimmer 2 Koralia 4's (debating about adding a third, but haven't decided yet) 1 Koralia 1 - for mixing the salt I'm planning on a Brute 32g can to mix my salt in - does anyone else use this can? If so, what size heater...

    Heater & Fuge Light Question

Still waiting on the stand before I pick the tank up. Looks like sometime within the next month - then I have to get the setup plumbed... It's going slow, but after I start filling with water it'll move pretty quick.
