    Bio media for sump?

Hi! Just starting a 90 gallon (previous reef tank) for mbuna cichlids. There is a sump and I’m wondering what would be the best bio media to add into it. I’m thinking it should go in the middle section. The water comes in the left side into a filter sock. Maybe some of that filter fabric you cut...

    Universal rocks?

Anyone use these? I love the fact that they are lightweight. I am coming from a reef tank….had enough of that money pit. I’m using the same tank. 90 gallon with sump. I found universal rocks and got one used. With a little cutting I got it to fit on the right side of overflow. I’m thinking of...

    Talk me out of it....

No I don’t, I’m looking to see where I can get it tested. In the past I’ve gone months without water changes (just too off) so I’m starting with better maintenance

What’s your favorite saltwater fish that you’ve owned?

No pic, but I love my engineer gobies!

    Talk me out of it....

I think I’m going to try to up my maintenance and see how it goes. I’m thinking I will regret taking my tank apart

    Talk me out of it....

Or into it! I have a 90 gallon reef tank with sump. I had a custom stand and canopy made for it as this was supposed to be my “show” tank, last tank. While I love the tank, I have terrible algae problems. Mostly hair algae. I’ll admit it is probably all my fault from lack of maintenance. I...

    Reef rock for cichlids

I see, thanks! I’ll keep thinking about it. Maybe I’ll try to sell my rocks in the meantime

    Reef rock for cichlids

Yes, I want African. The guy at pet store said I should use Texas holey rock for more hiding places. But I don’t really see a difference if I have caves and stuff

    Reef rock for cichlids

Hey guys! I posted here before about getting out of saltwater and switching to cichlids. I have quite a bit of rock in my tank (that’s covered in hair algae) that I could possibly re use. Of course I will pressure wash all the algae off first. Would this be ok for cichlids? Or what is better...

    Reef to Cichlids?

Thanks! For the light, I mean do they need a certain “wattage” I could possibly sell the lights I have now and get something less powerful. How many/much water changes do you do? How often?

    Reef to Cichlids?

So I have a 90 gallon reef tank with about a 20 gallon sump. I had a custom cabinet and hood made for the tank. It was supposed to be my “showpiece” I never used RO water so I have a lot of algae issues. I’m newly pregnant so I’d like to have a tank that requires less maintenance and MONEY...

    Temporary lighting question

Hey Guys! My 90 gallon is finally cycled and I have one little talbot damsel in there. I’m trying to figure out how to hang my LEDs in the canopy. For now I have a “reef” led light on the top.....I don’t know what it’s rated for...it has the tiny little square LEDs across it. I have a few corals...

    Getting my 90 gallon started!

Sand and water in!! I HATE THE SUMP!!! It is too noisy. It’s older, a Berliner wd 125. The way the water flows over it makes so much splashing. I have it running to circulate the tank, but not the way it’s meant to be. My bad for not seeing how the sump ran when I bought the tank, but I felt...

    Getting my 90 gallon started!

Thanks!! I’m a girl[emoji3526] lol. I think I need 1 more rock on left side of the overflow. Can’t wait to update a pic with water and sand. I ended up getting the Fiji pink sand

    Getting my 90 gallon started!

Finally getting my 90 gallon going! I had a custom stand built that is 36” tall. I love not having to bend over to look into it. The downside is I have to use a step stool for everything. I’ve spent countless hours trying to arrange the rock. I tried 2 islands, walls, curves, I think I’m where...

    Keep the sand??

Ugh. I didn’t think about that! Maybe I’ll stick with the aragonite (special grade) I also like the looks of the Fiji pink, and the arag alive natural reef. I definitely like gobies so the arag natural reef stuff might be too big. Something about an empty tank sitting in your living room...

    Keep the sand??

This was sand straight from Florida reef (salty bottom reef) but it was way too expensive! I got a 40 pound bag of caribsea aragonite and night mix some crushed coral with it

    Keep the sand??

How do you feel about live sand direct from Florida ocean? I’m waiting to hear about shipping cost(I’m in NY) if it’s too crazy I’m not doing it. Looks pretty nice though. From Salty Bottom Reef

    Keep the sand??

I keep going back and forth. Now I’m looking at reefcleaners base rock...I do have a bucket of dry marco rocks that would be silly to waste

    Keep the sand??

I’m going to pick through the better looking rocks. I’ve also been looking at rocks from addictive reef keeping that are purple....is it worth paying the extra money for fake coraline? I never thought I’d be dwelling on rocks this much!

    Keep the sand??

I ditched the sand. I think I’m going to ditch the rocks and get new as well. The more I look at them they’re pretty ugly and I’ve had them in sw but no heater or anything so they don’t smell so hot

    Keep the sand??

Hey guys! Just bought a used 90 gallon reef ready tank. The guy saved the sand for me in a bucket. Should I reuse it? I’m not setting the tank up right away so it will sit in the bucket for a while...2-3 weeks. Should I ditch it and get new sand?
