A must for beginners not to do.

Always dissolve any powder buffers etc that you are putting in your tank with corals, in my own experience API buffer max. it seems to highly agitate corals and they shrivel up. using either tank water, RO or distilled water in a cup. if it's dissolved it wont be so much of a bother. funny...

would like an opinion on my mystery ??

i reckon do a slight water change, keeping all fish buying to a minimum for now, and add something to re spike the ammonia ( i used fish food) and restart the cycle, and if you must have something in there, try something small like a snail and that can help in continuing the cycle and help aid...

    Maingano surgery

i had the fun experience today of attempting to remove rocks from my little maingano's (grumpy's) mouth. it was a very different experience, after noticing for a few days that he hadn't been eating, i decided to take a look in his mouth, from reading in books that a major problem with...

hello there, i was testing my saltwater tanks water today after starting a cycle about 2 weeks ago. my water tested at a ph of 8.2 , ammonia 0.25 ppm , nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 0ppm, and salinity of 1.028. i personally think that the water is not ready but i thought i'd ask to get other peoples...

new setup, need comments on making it better :)

also had a look at the api test kits , they are the same for salt and freshwater tanks, by looking at the individual bottles saying for use with saltwater / freshwater :) might help some people save a bit of cash with that :) ive tested this theory, the nitrite one is for both, and the high...

new setup, need comments on making it better :)

the water around this area has a few fish near the shorelines, , especially near the rocks and at the river mouth( where i obtained the water) dont worry its a saltwater river. the brown algae is tiny little bits of hair like substance that eventually builds up and forms large clumps. so...

thanks alot, this is very helpful, so it would be better to obtain water from out far in the sea :) ill make sure to pack some plastic jerry cans in the boat next time :), supposedly i heard that if the water is placed in a cool spot for about 10 days, this should guarantee that the water would...

new setup, need comments on making it better :)

okay, ill look into the pure water, i am cycling the tank at this present time, as for the aeration, would just an air pump, going through a bubble curtain and the pump be sufficient, or would it be best to look into a skimmer?. as for refractometers, would ebay be a good place to purchase...

    sick looking bristlenose

heres the picture of her underneath as you can see, she has got little red bumps on her. from looking in her mouth i cannot see any pebbles, ( they would be blue if any) unless she has swallowed them completely and they are blocking her intestines. below is the picture of her belly and her...

    sick looking bristlenose

i believe the white growth is her flesh sticking out of her skin, which is not gone. shes swelling up alot now, and has what looks like internal bleeding. i believe there is a pebble in there, but cant actually see as she is never facing the right way. is it even possible to remove the pebble...

    sick looking bristlenose

latest update: she looks like she has a little white growth on her, and her bloated-ness hasn't changed. sort of looks like the white thing on her is her flesh protruding from the skin. Also she is still going to the top for air. any ideas?? i don't think she will live for long?

    Angelfish

haha yea, i normally take out about 10L , its not too bad at the moment. the fish seem fine with it. im more worried about my electric yellows, which dont seem to be eating much. which causes a heap of waste as for non eaten food, which will probably spike up a high ammonia reading. that tank...
