White spots - Neon Tetra Disease or Ich?

It's not too bad... Definitely not right up against the body. I have put an airstone in for the time being, so air shouldn't be a problem. I think things are going a bit better than last time ich struck, so hopefully there won't be any more casualties. Thanks!

White spots - Neon Tetra Disease or Ich?

I've also just noticed that a couple of my neon tetras seem to have lost part of their rear-most fin. Could this be fin-rot, or something? I've never noticed it before... But nothing really looks infected. Will the fins grow back at all?

White spots - Neon Tetra Disease or Ich?

Thanks. Sorry for the late reply; my keyboard broke! I turned up the heat to around 86F last night and applied the medicine yesterday afternoon. There aren't any signs of the white spots now, and apart from one neon tetra that developed a severe swim bladder problem and passed on last night...

White spots - Neon Tetra Disease or Ich?

I've looked and I can't see any white spots at all now! I'm very confused. There were quite a lot last night... Any ideas what has happened? Also, the hiding zebra danio seems to be up and about again. I wonder what was wrong? None of them have done that before...

White spots - Neon Tetra Disease or Ich?

Thanks. In light of what you've said, I've moved all the fish back into the original tank. I've actually noticed that one of my zebra danios is hiding underneath the bogwood at the bottom, and will only move when I lift the thing up, so I assume he's not feeling himself either, as they're...

White spots - Neon Tetra Disease or Ich?

I assumed it was Ich, as obviously the disease is notorious for the White Spots that characterise it, but someone who is a very experienced aquarist assures me that it's the untreatable Neon Tetra disease, and that aside from euthanising the fish to prevent it spreading, there's nothing I can...

What type of coldwater fish is this, and how should I care for them?

Thanks very much. Don't worry, I don't have the heating on or anything so the water's definitely cold enough for them. I still can't work out whether they've been eating any of the flake food yet! They've left quite a bit which I had to fish out, but I have a feeling some of it went... I think...

What type of coldwater fish is this, and how should I care for them?

I first thought they were three-spined sticklebacks, though I'm not too sure as they're pretty tiny. I caught a few of them last night and placed them in an EMPTY cycled tank, so there's no risk of disease. Anyway, the largest is about 2cm (just under an inch), with the smallest about a...

What caused my fish to die?

Thanks. Sadly, I definitely have no room for another tank... Though I do have a small three gallon filled only with snails that I might be able to get a heater for to use as a quaranteen tank, if you think that'd do? I hope I will be able to make the ten gallon work... When you say it's a...

What caused my fish to die?

They weren't added at the same time, and when I last checked, ammonia was none-existant. I waited a good week between adding new fish. The last ammonia check was before I added the betta, but surely that wouldn't have changed things significantly? The zebra danios were fine as of this morning...

What caused my fish to die?

I am currently away on holiday, and have been for four days. My sister went into my house today to check on my fish, and I was horrified to hear that all six of my neon tetras had passed on (and been partially eaten.) I've been feeling terribly guilty since, as these are not the first fish...

Creating a aquarium with substrate and fish from the wild.

Fortunately as I have a pond I could always rehome them if/when they outgrow the tank. Still, I've definitely never seen any of the sticklebacks in my local brook approaching that size. Thanks for the email address by the way!

Creating a aquarium with substrate and fish from the wild.

Hello again. It seems I've really been bitten by the aquarium bug from my ten gallon tropical tank, and after recently noticing a 6.6 gallon (25 litre) tank which would fit well on my bookshelf, I decided to take the plunge. Anyhow, as I already have a tropical tank which I'm very happy with, I...

A few questions on the nitrogen cycle, PH and white spot syndrome...

Thanks for the advice. I have a sponge filter without carbon, so I take it that's fine as it is? I'm quite worried about one of my neon tetras... He's spending most of his time lying on the bottom, almost falling over. I saw him upside down a while ago, but I gave him a gentle nudge and he...

A few questions on the nitrogen cycle, PH and white spot syndrome...

Oh, and one other thing... I saw online that adjusting the temperature from 25c to 28c helps kill the parasites. Is this a good idea?

A few questions on the nitrogen cycle, PH and white spot syndrome...

Nothing ever goes according to plan with me... When I got my fish, I'd thought that it was already cycled, as I had been using fishfood and the ammonia levels had dropped down to about zero. It turns out I got it totally wrong, and my tank wasn't cycled at all. I found ammonia at 0.25ppm last...

Is there any way a betta and dwarf gourami live together? What about red crabs?

Thanks. I've got a Fluval Plus One, which is rated at 12 gallons so that should be all right. Are weekly water changes all right, do you think? I've already got into the habit of it anyway, so that shouldn't be too bad.

Is there any way a betta and dwarf gourami live together? What about red crabs?

Eight. So you reckon I'd still have room for the six pygmies and a single betta/gourami?

Is there any way a betta and dwarf gourami live together? What about red crabs?

Thanks for that. I've actually been looking around, and I was thinking of possibly including a small shoal of pygmy corydoras and one betta/dwarf gourami (still can't decide.) Do you think that might work? Maybe six pygmy corydoras. They're only the size of my little neons, so surely that...

Do you watch your fish eat?

I love watching my little neons eat. Especially when the flakes get caught in the filter flow and they chase them around like mad!

Is there any way a betta and dwarf gourami live together? What about red crabs?

It's a ten gallon. Am I right in thinking I might have to leave this then? I was thinking of possibly getting a male/female pair of dwarf gourami, if that would work. What do you think? I'm finding all this stuff about fish compatibility incredibly confusing. I would love to get three gourami as...

Is there any way a betta and dwarf gourami live together? What about red crabs?

Thanks. If these are the crabs they're selling, it appears they're completely unsuitable. Perisesarma bidens - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Aside from the brackish water requirement, I imagine it's extremely difficult to provide a means for them to climb to the water's surface. I'll...

Is there any way a betta and dwarf gourami live together? What about red crabs?

I just got my last neon tetras today and I got thinking about my tank's remaining occupants will be. I'm torn between dwarf gourami and bettas, and though I'm told they can't live together, I was wondering if there's any gender combination that would work. Would a male betta and a female gourami...

1 year in a planted tank

That really is a fantastic tank. I'm totally ignorant when it comes to plants... How would I get my plants to take off like that?

How long should I have my light on per day?

Thanks for the advice everyone, and I'm sorry for taking so long to reply. My tank is fairly small (10 gallons) so though it's hard to say since there's no wattage specified, I'd guess this is enough... I reckon ten hours a day is probably best, as you say.
