    Gotta love Craigslist!

:thumb: Gorgeous tank & great deal! Congratulations! The Dallas/Fort Worth craigslist is a gold mine... ugh it kills me to go through the listings and see all the great deals, because I live three hours away. There are literally dozens of tanks listed every day! I think I must be a sadist...

QT question - new fish with existing shrimp?

No worries, Patterson! :) For the night, I guess I'm gonna leave them in the bucket with an airstone. I'm trying to think if I've got a rubbermaid container around here that will work for a while... I think I do... tho it will no doubt need to be cleaned out. Then I guess I will get...

QT question - new fish with existing shrimp?

It's a 29 gallon tank that cost me $5!!!!! Great deal, but not so great as far as being a quick-fix. I guess I will just leave them in the 5 gallon bucket for now. :( Also we don't have a petco in my town either. Even if we did, if I walk through the door with one more fish tank, there is NO...

    To Feed or To Keep?

Java moss is great for fry BUT be prepared for it to go everywhere in your tank. Be sure to tie it to some wood or something with fishing line. Oh and put a sponge or something over your filter intake, unless of course you're using a sponge filter. LOL Lots of people suggest hornwort for fry...

    To Feed or To Keep?

With good filtration/water movement, and preferably some plants, I'd say sure. Keep up with frequent, small water changes... IMO, for a short term solution, it should be fine.

    To Feed or To Keep?

I always wind up keeping them... I say I'm not going to, but I always do! The few times I tried to "cull" by offering a few little fry to my cichlids... the cichlids wouldn't eat them! In fact my only fish that I have ever seen eating the guppy fry were the guppy mommas. LOL I'm always afraid...

QT question - new fish with existing shrimp?

Thanks for the quick response J! So how long can they stay in a bucket with just a bubbler? I'm concerned about water quality issues... but I want to be sure they are healthy before I put them with my other fish. My plan was to just use an established filter on the QT tank, no bubbler...

QT question - new fish with existing shrimp?

Hi everyone, I bought a used aquarium for $5 off of craigslist today to use as a QT tank. I filled it up in my bathtub to be sure it holds water, and so far it does, but the silicone is peeling, so I'm concerned that it's not sound. I know how to strip it & reseal the tank, but that will...

    new plants

Crypts are notorious for "melt", but as long as they get enough light and nutrients, they should bounce back. Those plants look pretty good to me... however I'm not sure if all of them have the same requirements (amount of light, hard vs. soft water, etc.) I would suggest that you just trim...

    new plants

There are a lot of different plants that will do this as they get used to the differences in the water/lighting conditions... it's called "melt". Usually you should just cut off the decaying leaves and if all goes well, new ones will begin to grow soon.

Swap: WTT java moss for snails

Hi! I have several golfball sized portions of java moss that I would like to trade for some snails... enough to generously fill a sandwich baggy. I'd especially like either a few assassin or a few nerite snails. I do have MTS and RCS in my tanks... possibly a little bit of algae as well... but...

    Solo jewel cichlid?

Hey everyone... I have a lone male jewel cichlid and I don't know what to do with him. I had kept some juvies in my community tank while they were growing, and I thought I got them all out, but this one male escaped my notice for a while. Now he's a full grown male and he just doesn't seem...

    Pictus Accident?

I can completely relate! One of my tanks sprung a leak last week, and when we were moving the residents to another tank, I lost my biggest (about 6") polkadot loach. Right after I released him into the tank, he spazzed and then just sort of "fell over" and floated to the bottom of the tank. Now...
