    stocking

afd? you mean adf? african dwarf frog? If you wanted to add some fish in there with them, i would suggest getting 2 frogs. that way you have a lot more options with companion fishies. guppies, a betta, shrimp or otos are usually a good bet. you could get a real pretty betta as a centerpiece fish

A Betta in a Bowl at Work

http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/found-the-most-outragous-thing-at-petco-today-143784.html conditioned tap water is fine. bottled water also messes with pH. Bottled water also has a lot of extras in it to make it taste good. That's all. Im not posting anymore. Best of luck.

my point is is that those are not the most reputable sources. . . in the advice about the bottled water.

A Betta in a Bowl at Work

Well, I'm only giving advice. Take it or leave it, but be aware, those "BETTA IN A VASE" schemes are not in the interest of the betta. 1) they give approximately 1/3 to 1/2 a gallon for swimming room, that should be the first indication they are not a good environment. Bettas (for an enjoyable...

A Betta in a Bowl at Work

I also think tap water is fine (with the conditioner) and I'm not sure that bottled water is perfectly safe for fish either. Believe it or not, there is a lot of extra stuff in bottled water as well. You can get a really small bottle of water conditioner for pretty cheap, should only take a few...

A Betta in a Bowl at Work

^^agree. the fish should be fine over the weekend, but may need to be monitored in the winter when the heat is turned off in the office. You shouldn't have to bring it home for water changes though, if you're only keeping it in a 1 gallon tank it shouldn't be a problem for your wife to take out...

new to the site, 10 gal. tank stocking questions

my fish store gets shipments every week, but they don't get all types of fish every week. As for different schools, its not like the fish won't survive but they usually do much better in larger groups. Also, then you can get a cooler viewing of schooling activities. With a mixed group they...

yup. the store is always the last word! shrimp are a good idea, their bioloads are so small and they are good cleaners. If you wanted you could do 3 of shrimp and otos. What I do when getting fragile fish is find out when the fish store gets their shipments, and go in a few days after that...

5 should be just fine. You could do a few more, but 5 is the minimum.

I'm not sure what you mean...there are a lot of different types of rasboras, ranging in all sorts of sizes. You could get a school of small rasboras, like I said the cherry ones stay really small (under an inch). I'm seeing that you could do a school of 5 cherry rasboras, 1 dwarf gourami and 3...

Don't know what to do about cloudy tank HELP!

Also, I think you said somewhere in another post that you don't have substrate (rocks, gravel, sand or whatever at the bottom). You don't necessarily have to have substrate, but if you're having issues with your good bacteria levels (as indicated with ammonia present) I would suggest getting a...

    10 gal hood and lighting

that looks good, but the reviews are terrible!! lol. And not to be a prick or anything, but I don't like to support walmart, especially their fish departement. I've been angry at them ever since they sold (uneducated) me a 1.5 gallon tank with a koi.

a dwarf gourami would be good, they are really pretty. I'm not sure about the rasboras, but I think you could get away with a school of small rasboras, like the cherry ones. A good site to check is aqadvisor.com they have a detailed list of fish and you can see if they are compatable, if the...

petco should take back the danios. You prob can't get your money back, but they're really good about taking fish back. I know petsmart won't do it but at least my neighborhood petco will. They're happy to make the buck! :)

I would advise you against the bristlenose, like someone said before they grow out of a 10 gallon. But, I've had mine for about 6 months now and he is still within the 10 gallon size range, so if you're planning on upgrading that should be fine. I would recommend otos, they stay quite small and...

    10 gal hood and lighting

am I going to have to get something like this Aqueon Deluxe Full Fluorescent Black Aquarium Hoods - Aquarium Hood and Fish Tank Light from PETCO.com and dole out 35 bucks? Or is there a way to do it cheaper??

    10 gal hood and lighting

I never thought I'd be asking this (my 55 gal has no additional lighting and I've always been proud of that) but what are some good and cheap lighting for a 10 gal? I would like to have plants in there, so maybe a medium light (is there such thing as medium?) so my choices of plants can vary. I...

    Melafix is a miracle!!!!

totally dude. My koi ripped open his gill on a decoration a couple years ago...I seriously thought he wouldn't make it and cried myself to sleep that night! But he pulled through, melafix healed up the huge tear within a couple weeks and he was back to his old self! Must be a miracle drug ;)

    Stressed Betta....?

yes, they are horizontal. She is blue, and the lines are black. I've never seen her without the stripes, but I have seen her flare up at a net...her colors get really deep and some red comes out in her, but when shes ordinarily swimming around she has the stripes.

    Stressed Betta....?

She's eating fine, and the tank is under no additional lighting, and its not super bright in the room. None of the other fish seem to be bothering her, so I'm just not sure what's causing the stress.
