Another "what would you do with these tanks" post

Long time no post. I've been playing musical aquariums and just traded my 30gal hex for a 46gal bowfront. BTW, am I the only one that keeps trading tanks, trying new things? How do you just slap yourself & be satisfied w/ what you have?? :silly: I would LOVE to do discus in the 46gal...

Showing off (I hope) low tech planted 29g

I'd like to move the taller plants to the back/sides, but I'm wondering if it's possible to do that without creating a mess since there is potting soil under the sand. Any hints/ideas?

    Compatability Question

Please remove the pleco before you add the betta. I had otos in w/ bettas and they had to be moved to a new tank because they would "snack" on the betta's slime coat. Not all algae eaters do it, but in a 3gal there's nowhere for the betta to get away.

Showing off (I hope) low tech planted 29g

OK, the 75gal is gone. I do miss it, but I also like not having to come up with 4' of wall for the thing. I picked up a cheap 29gal set up, upgraded to a 2 bulb fixture and decided to try the low tech plant technique (ie, no CO2, no fertilizer). The first pic is from about week 2.5, the second...

What would you do with these tanks?

OK, how about the correct measurements? The "35" is actually a standard 29gal at 30"l x 12"w x 18" or 19"d. The 44 is 20"l x 18"w x 30"d. I think I'm going to store the 44gal for now. I'm going to do a planted in the 29gal, using the potting soil/gravel low maintenance technique. May...

What would you do with these tanks?

OK, I feel like a flake since last you knew, I was going to keep my 75gal tank. So, the day after I bought a 35gal tank (36"x12"x18??), I had an offer to trade that finally came through. It's a gorgeous tank, but almost useless for what I would like: a nice planted gourami/killi/tetra...

Trade 75gal for smaller set up (Sacramento CA)

I've rehomed the common plecos, and had several offers to take the angels, but none followed through. I'm very attached to the killi and had otherwise planned to keep my current fish.

Trade 75gal for smaller set up (Sacramento CA)

I am looking to downsize to a 40-60 gallon set up. I like hex/octagon tanks, but basically just want a tank that takes up less room. My tank is 48"l x 30"h x 12"d. Comes with stand, filters, light, etc. I haven't completely given up on the idea that I might enjoy this tank again, but I'd also...

    Keep the 75 or downsize?

I just can't let go of my dream of a planted tank. Maybe I'll keep my eye open for a 50 or 60 gallon. They're the same length as my tank, but shallower, so lighting may not be as much of an issue. OK, off to read all the posts in the planted tank section to see if I need to slap myself upside...

Yeah, that sounds TOTALLY fair!

    Keep the 75 or downsize?

OK, I've pretty much psyched myself into keeping the tank. It will be moved eventually to a more hospitable spot, but in the meantime, here's the game plan (yes, I'm sinking even MORE money into it!): get a triple bulb light strip to up the light even more. PetsMart is having a $10 off sale on...

What would you stock this tank with?

The sand came with the tank when I bought it. I later found out it's not the best substrate for live plants, but it is good for the dojo loach & the corys, so I guess it's a tie. I'm wondering if I would have better luck with "potted" plants.

What would you stock this tank with?

Water parameters are always 0 for nitrates/nitrites/ammonia. pH is 7.4. I've tried fish both from PetsMart & from an LFS, w/ no perceptible difference in survival rate. The angels are the most recent (4-5 mos ago) acquisition, so they're not responsible for previous die offs. I think I just have...

Has anyone tried this killifish hatch pack?

It looks like a lot of fun! Any ideas? http://cgi.ebay.com/Killifish-Killi-No-Rachovii50eggs-HatchPack-FairyShrimp_W0QQitemZ200125536128QQihZ010QQcategoryZ66795QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

What would you stock this tank with?

OK, in follow up to whether to keep the 75gal, here are the current occupants (most of my original fish died shortly after the move & a vicious case of ich): 2 angels (1 of which has never grown) 2 gourami 2 corys 2 common pleco 1 female betta 1 clown pleco 1 panchax/killifish (never 100% ID'd...

    Keep the 75 or downsize?

This is becoming a very hard decision. I moved almost a year ago, and for the last several months, I have barely been paying attention to my 75 gallon. Part of it is the location, I think. It's not the most convenient location for water changes, etc. I've been toying with the idea of going with...

Moving from hardwater to softwater area

My mother and her boyfriend are buying a condo, so I get dibs on her house. :D I will be moving from a city with liquid rock water to one with soft water. Any pointers on helping the fish make the transition? Will it help to know the exact water parameters of the new house? I have to go over...

    New light strip won't fit!

For economical reasons, when I first fit out my 75 gallon, I bought 2 24" standard hood/light combos. I bought a double bulb 48" light strip to improve the lighting in my tank, but I didn't realize how much wider the 2 bulb strip was. It just won't fit without removing both existing hoods, but...

What would you add to this tank?

The tank is kept 82-84 degrees. No problems so far, even with the lower temp fish. This is my "learning tank" so the combination of fish and equipment is a result of my learning curve. :)

What will thrive in this tank?

It really is 30" deep. The water is kept that warm as a compromise for the discus who prefer 85+ degrees and the other fish who prefer it below 80. Petsmart.com of all places has a triple fluorescent hood for around $100, which is not an unreasonable cost for me to consider if that would be an...

What will thrive in this tank?

I have a 75 gal tank that I have dreams of becoming a lush green tank, but no go so far. I know I have a less than ideal setup, but on my budget, I don't see many upgrades in the immediate future. The tank is 48" x 12" x 30". I have 2 standard 24" fluorescent hoods, single bulb, with...

What would you add to this tank?

Getting ready to move everyone back into the 75 gallon after resealing the cross-brace. Current occupants will be: 2 juvenile discus (3.5-4") 1 angel fish 2 clown loaches (4.5") 1 clown pleco 1 sailfin pleco? (inherited from co-worker, only 5" long) 2 balloon mollys 2 platys 1 black neon tetra...
