My first tank with zero nitrates

That's pretty awesome! My 120 gal is sitting at about 5 ppm in nitrates. It has been creeping down since I started running the 20 gal sump/regufium with macro algae and DSB. I'm curious to see how low it will go without a skimmer. Again, great job!

    my first sump/fuge build

Hinds has a very good point, it's not only where it will show first but it's the only place it will show. I lose about half a gallon a day on my 120 gallon w/ 20 gallon sump system which is about a two inch drop in the 7x10x12 return pump area.

    my first sump/fuge build

I disagree with lowering the baffle from being flush with the trim, worst case scenario the 1/4 inch space is sufficient for the water to level out before spilling over, plus the clogging of the entire baffle is highly unlikely anyway. I would remove the ten inch baffle closest to the skimmer as...

    Fluval 405

I have one that I am not using at the moment. It's almost complete minus one of the hoses. I was using a surface skimmer for the inlet and a spray bar for the output. Give me $80 and the shipping and I'll send it out to you ASAP...Actually just make it $90 total. Let me know if you're interested.

    Where to buy Strombus snails?

Hello everyone! I have heard that many aquarist have had success with strombus snails breeding in their tank or refugim. This is good news for me as I have three green spotted puffers to feed. The only place I have found which sells strombus snails however is IPSF.com....The only items which...

    Best Fish for FOWLR?

In a 55 gallon tank I would find a small clown trigger to occupy it for a year or so. I love triggerfish!

Capacity of 125 gallon tank w/ 20 gal. sump?

@Pat, thank you for your input. The recent addition of the Powder Blue Tang was an impulse buy, it was such a beautiful fish to pass up and I ended up justifying it by arguing to myself that I needed another tang to complement the two triggers (weak argument I know.) As far as I'm concerned the...

Capacity of 125 gallon tank w/ 20 gal. sump?

The three GSPs, two triggers, and sailfin have been in the tank approximately three months, the powder blue was a recent addition as well as being the largest of them all at roughly five inches. The GSPs are still under three inches and have a potential size of six inches according to my...

Capacity of 125 gallon tank w/ 20 gal. sump?

Hello, I'm wondering what you guys think about the fish load in my 120 gallon FOWLR tank with 20 gallon sump... I have three small green spotted puffers, a Niger Trigger, a Humu Humu Trigger, a Sailfin Tang and a Powder Blue Tang. In your opinion, is my tank below fish capacity, just right, or...

    pump size

You can get a good idea of how much water is coming out by filling a known size container and timing it. For example if it takes 10 seconds to fill a one gallon jug, multiply 1 gal/10 sec by 3600 sec/1hr equals 360 gallons per hour.

What is the Best overflow box?

Hello, I myself am using an Eshopps 800 and I have no complaints. Albeit, it is the first overflow I have ever owned. I was hesitant to go with it because I read many reviews, or seen videos, where people have lost the syphon over time. I now believe this was the case because the pump being used...
