I bleach everything.. I even rinse well and add water and fish when I scrub beanies. I use prime as a water conditioner and have a tad extra in the water holding tank so it eliminates any residue. If they air dry it is also gone. Same with nets. The get dipped in a bleach solution, run water...
Think there a rules here about selling or commercial.. so contact me off list and let me know if you want a pet, breeding for fun or for shows. Have fish for all those and pricing different for each. I need room so in a place to make you a deal.
He is headed to a show then a breeding tank. He is my irridesent line. Have metallics, coppers, yellow, orange and playing with black. Orange went in spawn tank tonight.
I have several hundred coming of age now. Priority is $17.50 and express $37.50 with heat pack. Email me at basementbettas(@)msn dot com. Remove brackets..
Bettas don't need cycled tanks like other fish.. they are air breathers. My bettas in beanies get 90% water change every other day. The barracks get 80% water change every third day. Fish are fine and love the fresh water. Water is not aged but treated and used. Keep temp and ph consistant and...
Don't use salt at all. If you have hard water it may fray the fins. A little r/o added to your water will soften it. Drinking water from walmart is r/o. Or run your water thru peat, add dechlor and that may help. San antonio water about destroyed most of my bettas fins and caused failed spawns...
He's not that old. Many last years. Get a flash light and shine it on him. If you see fine flecks he has velvet. Another one that get bettas is hex.. internal parasites. Fish go off food and die. A sign of hex is long stringy poo. Metronidazole is good for hex.. I periodically add it to a frozen...
Get rid of or clean with bleach everything associated with the velvet. I have hundreds of bettas and velvet is nothing to mess with. You will develop a resistant strain if you don't agressivly get rid of it.
Get acriflavin. He will die quicky with the velvet. Acriflavin will have him feeling better in 24 hours if it is not too late. Velvet is nasty and the mela prima fix stuff won't touch it. Acriflavin can't be overdosed. Watch it as it does stain. I put 3 to 5 drops in a beanie.. you can cut the...
I used to spend 4 hours a day changing water. The barracks allow me to change water in 20 minutes and I do it every 3rd day. After the intitial cost of the system they will save money. They will break even in a week with labor.. and people HATE the way these fish are kept. Suggest they become a...
I got my plexi at Lowe's. They will make 3 cuts for free. After that it is like .10/cut. I had a gazillion cuts and it cost me about $5 extra per barrack. See the blog for where to get the glue. The big chains have tanks running off a central filter. All you need is to do something similar with...
You have to look at the economics. They pay maybe $1/fish. Then they have to pay some one $7/hour to clean the things every day. Plus a lot of the die.. so.. if they have to have too much care.. they are not worth it bacuse the shop will lose money on them. I know.. bettas are sick and dying...
My barracks cost me about $50 each and some time. They are easy to make and do not have to be as large as the ones I made. It would be very easy to adapt the idea to something that is smaller. I am growing out fish to show and so need the larger area for them to swim in for proper development of...
