    Update- 300 gallon in wall

I think I am going to continue doing what I know works which is T5 HO + LED combo. I had this on my 120 g and corals loved it. So I will have to stick with this combo until more proven results come out on the LED's!

    Update- 300 gallon in wall

The more I read I am finding out that Orphek is crap! Not sure if anyone here has these? I think I am going to go with the AI's, seem to have the best reviews. I like the Vertex a lot, and you can add and modify all you want including red and purple bulbs. Oh man, what to do lol

    Update- 300 gallon in wall

So like I have said in my last couple of threads, I am moving April 1st to a condo I have purchased. Originally I was going to move my 120 gallon and get start on an in wall build. I decided to sell the 120 g reef setup and it sold in one day, lucky for me. I have purchased my 300 gallon...

    Beginning to get discouraged

When you are acclimating, put the bag in the tank for about 45 min, then start adding water into the bag. Let them get use to temp, then to the water. Also there will always be losses in this hobby, stick with it! I have lost hundreds upon hundreds do to random stuff. Reef lobsters, evil...

    Coral amount

Well I had about 15 corals from my 46 that were transferred to my 120g about 3 monhts ago. They have all grown. Then a guy close to me took down his 120 and gave me a super price on his corals and fish. I put about 15 corals and 5 fish in my tank over a week's spand, about a month ago. They have...

    Coral amount

Yes start slow, but once you get the hang of it you can add as many as you like and at any rate. I recently just put about 15 new corals in at once and no problems what so ever

    120g move or sell

So initially I was going to move everything in my 120g reef and the tank to my new house (15 minutes away). But now I am having second thoughts. So many people I have spoken to have lost everything or most of their livestock. Now I am in a debate whether I should continue with my original plan...

    Sand sifting needed

Yup lots of reading in this hobby like any. The more you learn the better you become. The only problem with this hobby is a lot of is is open to suggestion and multiple equations. Sometimes there is not one right answer. What works for me and my tank may or may not work for yours. Of course some...

    Sand sifting needed

Yes, but I am not extremely familiar with sand sifting creatures or what is the best way to go. Now that I have been reading more and more about sand sifting sea stars, I dont exactly recommend them even though I have had no issues. Now I am even second guessing if I should switch them up :P

    Coral Placement

Like when I added my big frog spawn colony my rose BTA did not open as big as normal, so I moved him about 6 inches further away than he already was and within a day or two he was back to full size. You will know by keeping an eye on them.

I am no sure. I have never kept either. Sea cucumbers work well. Brittle stars and worms keep it clean as well.

    Coral Placement

It depends if they will touch or not. Also depends if they sting. What kind of corals are you looking at getting? I personally try to give my corals a bit of space between one another.

I was looking to solve problems with nitrates with my high bioload

I would not put the macro or mangrove in the tank unless you have a separate area in your tank that is closed off from the rest, or a sump. I would also suggest a protein skimmer in the future if you plan on keeping corals :P

Safe to put store bought shells?

Yes precisely. I did not go scuba diving for my shells. Picked them up on the beach. So naturally I boiled them for a minute to get any parasites or pollutants out.
