    Bubble algae

I'm have no experience with rabbit face fish, but when it comes to removing bubble algae, I usually wait until I am doing a water change. While I am siphoning, I will place my tube over or close to the bubble algae, then pop them. The suction seems to pull most of the bubble algae juices and...

    Dirty tank

Whenever I want some coraline off of my glass, I just take my razor to it. With a couple of scrapes, it comes right off. I love coraline on the back side of my tank, but I don't like it growing on the glass, in the way of my view

    Water changes needed or not?

Bloom, do you have any corals? If no, do you plan to get any corals?

    Water changes needed or not?

Doing water changes replenishes the used trace elements needed for your corals to grow. Most people don't have the means to test/dose all the replaced nutrients that a 10-20% PWC will do. Water changes are a great time to remove detrius and leftover food. Water changes are more beneficial...

    Benefits of a QT!

Hate to contribute to the necro of this thread but I wanted to say something about buying a 5 gallon tank to quarantine. You REALLY REALLY have to consider what you are going to be putting in quarantine, why you are putting it in quarantine, and how you are going to about quarantining the...

    Clownfish Hosting Coral?

As others have said, Clowns will host just about anything. The thing to keep in mind is that may not always be a good thing. My clown was hosting one of my open brains for the longest time and it seemed to be doing well, but after a few weeks of hosting, my brain died fairly fast. Just...

What do you think of this cube?

Yeah, I mostly just want softy coral. I don't plan on getting any nems, at least not any time soon. I will most likely stick to the candy canes, acans, mushrooms, colony polyps and frogspawn/hammers. Thats the plan anyways haha.

What do you think of this cube?

JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Cube LED | Nano Reef Aquariums | PetSolutions I am considering buying the professional version of this nano cube. I was mostly just wondering if the stock LED lights are good enough to allow the coral to thrive. Also if anyone that has purchased this one from petsolutions...

    Wrasse in the Overflow

Yeah, I was suprised he was still alive also. Fish are amazing scavengers it seems  But I tried the net to fish him out, didn't work. The overflows tubing makes maneuvering a pain, but I'll figure it out.

    Wrasse in the Overflow

So, I lost my six line wrasse about a month and a half ago. I thought he died somehow and was eaten because I didn't see any remains or anything so I chucked it up as a loss. Well I was doing some sump maintainance and decided to look up inside my overflow from the bottom.....and there he was...

    Sea urchin question

Sea urchins are great cleaners, but can be rather annoying if you have frags in the tank. They tend to take stuff and move them or knock plugs out of rocks constantly. But if you have no frags or you're not worried about resetting your plugs everyday, sea urchins are an amazing addition to...

    Very high nitrates

Also touching up on what melosu said, nitrates are not the only harmful thing in tap water. Just imagine all the chemicals and additives used in tap water that you would never put in your aquarium. There are alot of things in there that coral cannot survive with and stuff that will throw your...

D'uh! dumb mistakes will cost ya!

Ouch, ya those are things to learn from really. I tried to simplify my water changes as much as possible. All my powerheads get shut off by one powerstrip, heater specifically set in my water mixing trash can, and a long enough tube to run from my DT to the sink when removing water, and that...

    Berlin method reef filtration?

Oh yea, I understand why you wouldn't want a sump. They certainly aren't required but you will need to put forward alot more work to keep the water conditions pristine.

    Phosphate removal

Do you siphon detrius out of your tank when you do water changes? Also having a higher amount of flow will help keep detrius in the water column and reduce the amount of siphoning required. Thats a good way to remove phosphates without having to buy any additional equipment.

    Sounds like a plan! Thanks

    Berlin method reef filtration?

Disclaimer ---I am not an expert, but this is stuff I have gathered through research! --- In my opinion, I think it could work but it would require ALOT more work on the reefers end. The sump, skimmer, refuge, and any other media used in the reef tank are just ways of removing nutrients from...

    Removing sponge filter

In the tank, I have about 110-130 pounds of live rock, and 2" deep of sand. In the sump, I have a ASM Skimmer along with purigen in the first slot (where my overflow flows into) then that goes into LR rubble, then into my sponge, then from my sponge into an empty slot with my return. The...

    Removing sponge filter

Would it be a bad idea to remove my sponge filter? I have one of the fluval 110 sponges for my 110g tank. I have a feeling it is holding phosphates and nitrates then releasing them back into the water column. The reason I ask is because I know you are supposed to slowly remove bio balls to...

    Fish to Cycle

Just wanted to say clownfish are damsels and if left alone in a tank will take over the tank. +1 to fishless cycle Patience patience patience, say it with me. =)

What are some good soft corals i can get with the fish i already have???

I'm not sure about which corals you should go with, but a tang in a 40g sounds like a bad idea. Just sayin'

    What is REALLY necessary?

I am assuming you are running a fish only system considering the forum, so really not much will be necessary. A power head will go along way to help keep detrius(fish poo, food, etc) in the water column to easily be removed with water changes. Otherwise you need to siphon the detrius out often...

    Flowerpot Coral

From the article I am reading: Even if you cannot positively identify the species of Goniopora in your care, you can figure out what it may eat. When trying foods, it is important to note the difference between a stress reaction and a feeding reaction. If you target-feed with a syringe and are...

    Flowerpot Coral

All I am really reading is that they need a well established system with plenty of plankton to feed on. They benefit greatly from a variety of different foods and you need to pay attention to what it likes and what it don't like and how it reacts to each food. So far thats all I got =( It...
