    20g reef tank HELP!

LEDs are worth it in every aspect IMO. Less energy consumption and no bulbs to replace. I would recommend going to boostled.com and get 3-4 of their Par30's with 40 degree optics. Depending on what color temp you want its all there. For the 20k look I'd say the 4 royal blue/ 1 cool white bulbs...

    20g reef tank HELP!

I think you would be much happier in the long run with a refractometer than the hydrometer. I would say get a few powerheads or an MP10 for extra flow. For light a metal halide would work great, possibly a 150watt. I have moved on to LEDs and I would say they are great. The same capabilities of...

How many Boostled Par30 for a Nano Cube 28?

That is what I was leaning towards as well but is that enough for SPS?

How many Boostled Par30 for a Nano Cube 28?

I am replacing the CF hood to these bulbs but not really sure which to choose. I plan on using the 3 royal blue/ 2 cool whites, but I want to know how many and which optics (40 or 60) My plans is a mixed reef with a possible clam. Will 2 40 degree bulbs be enough? Or should I go with a 40 and...

Rio 1100+ too much for a 10 gallon?

I'm building a 10 gallon on a $100 budget. I ordered Nova Extreme T5's 24", got the tank, silicone, acrylic, and fine aragonite sand. I'm trying to limit all the extra expenses so I decided to build an AIO peninsula tank. For the return I am reusing my Rio 1100+ I got a while back from a used...

    3 gallon to a 5 gallon

Yeah hopefully I can avoid a sand storm. Looking at getting some sps in the tank so I am currently at a 38x turn rate with the Rio 1100+. Might need to get some crushed coral to mix in with the sand.

    3 gallon to a 5 gallon

That's what the plan looks like so far. I got new sand, just need to rinse it out. It is like really fine sand from Petco. As of now I have the tank running with tap water to check for leaks and see how the Rio 1100 Plus works. Is that too much flow for a 10 gallon?

    Hitchhiker crab destroying snail population!

I'd say make a similar trap to those pest traps. Reef Aquarium Nuisance Invertebrates: Aquarium Pest Trap for Bristle worms, & Mantis Shrimp If he wants snails then bait him with snails then!

    3 gallon to a 5 gallon

The tank is going to be at school and it's only a 30 minute drive. I couldn't find a 5.5 gallon tank so I got a 10 gallon instead. Amazon.com: CL26SL: Finnex Aquarium Nano Refugium Cliplight including 3U Blue White Bulb & Moonlight LED - SILVER GREY: Pet Supplies It's nothing fancy but get's...

    Hitchhiker crab destroying snail population!

Let's go to the last resort! Borrow a mantis shrimp and toss it in your tank! haha Give it a little while and say bye to the crab problem! Down side? Now you have to worry about getting the mantis shrimp out... lol

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

Filled it with water today and looks like it works. With the Exception with the return leaking. For some reason the nozzle and PVC do not want to stick together. So looks like a trip to Lowes for some plumbing. Question! I used a stock nano cube 28 pump and it seemed like it was not enough flow...

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

Its clear acrylic sadly. I figured if it wasn't labeled then the silicone would be clear. The nozzle and PVC aren't sticking at all with super glue gel or silicone, so I am trying again.

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

Some updates! I cut the back wall and turns out I forgot to measure and cut from under the plastic frame. So what the **** and water level will now have to be lower. Turned out alright. I made a hole for the return, of course I cut it too big so I had to fit it with PVC. The silicone I got was...

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

Yeah currently my stock plan is the people eaters, torch, 2 small peppermint shrimp, snails and a hermit from the 3 gallon. And add maybe a birdsnest, monti and clam after I get everything transferred and given time to adjust. For fish I was thinking something interesting like an orchid...

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

I think I will take your advice on the 24". I wasn't thinking about the possibility of the end on the acrylic falling into the overflow area or the stress on the wall could break the silicone seal.

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

I haven't ordered the lights yet. And yes I was looking at the 18". I'm taking part of the end of the tank for the overflow so an 18" fixture will cover the whole display section.

Got a hold of a 10 gallon. Let the build begin!

So I was looking to upgrade my 3 gallon tank to a 5.5 but for $10 less I could get a 10 gallon. So WTH right? I got some dry sand, silicone, acrylic, and the tank. This weekend will be the build of an AIO. This will be a fairly slow build since I'm running into the last 6 weeks of the school...

They will also host frogspawn and torches as well. Seems like the will host anything that resembles an anemone

    ato float switch problem

Maybe you have a faulty float switch. These switches work because it is essentially a reed switch that is activated by the magnet in the floater. Sounds like the reeds have been stuck (possibly fused) together, which in turns means constant power. That's the only draw back with these switches...

What do I need for a cheap 20 long saltwater tank?

I would toss the light and get some T5HO lights if you want to keep corals. Maybe look into the Current USA Nova Extreme SLR ( Pet mountain has some for under $100) or Nova Extreme Pros. That would be the most expensive part to a reef tank. Also you will need a few powerheads in the tank for...

    Hitchhiker crab destroying snail population!

that's just one more mouth to feed and one more tank to clean. haha And I don't really like killing this myself. Just kinda weird. lol ( funny thing is I'm a hardcore carnivore for steaks, eating about 3 steaks a day)

    Hitchhiker crab destroying snail population!

I would say just remove the thing and give it to an LFS that has a mantis shrimp or puffer! lol

    3 gallon to a 5 gallon

With my first year of college coming to an end, I left my 3 gallon pico at home for my parents to care for. Unfortunately, the tank is going down hill. The acan in there isn't doing pretty well. It hasn't been inflating, nor has tentacles of any kind been visible. A small peppermint shrimp has...
