    Need tank switching advise

I just broke down my 175 to move evrything into a nice new 92 corner tank, so I have a ton of live rock and live sand left over. I am keeping the 175 going while I get rid or everything, so it is not just sitting around. I am going to try and sell it so if you want to buy some send me a note. I...

Live rock, to cook, or not to cook.....

If you are going to store it, just leave it out where it will be safe to dry and then use a brush to scrub off the algea. Depending on how long it is in storage, I would think the algea would die off or get scrubbed away.

    Mag 12 for a 55gal? SCWD jammed?

That is exactly the way I want to go, closed loop with an external pump and no powerheads. I too use a mag drive for making water and it actually takes the place of the heater as well, so for that I like it.

    CPU Cooling Fan Placement Questions

The other side of it is to create a tunnel with you hand and blow into it, it actually gets hotter. When you inhale through the same tunnel it cools the air much more. One thing to remember, even with an open back, if there is a wall, it will not flow completely out of the tank and will...

    Mag 12 for a 55gal? SCWD jammed?

Depending on how far the water has to pump, you will not get all 1200 gph, but the mag 12 is pretty strong up to 5 feet. I use two of them, one for return and one for my skimmer. I have a SCWD on my return as well and it functions fine. I have had to take it off before and clean it with hot...

    CPU Cooling Fan Placement Questions

Actually, if it is an open back canopy blowing out will be better than blowing in. When blowing out, there is not any hot air recirculting inside the canopy it is all drawn out and the equal volume of cool outside air gets pulled into the canopy throuhg the open back. So really, blowing in...

question about ODYSSEA mh lighting fixture

I have the 72" and so far it works very well all around. I originally tried to cancel my order after reading bad reviews, but I am now pretty glad I got the unit.

    CPU Cooling Fan Placement Questions

There is sometimes a potential problem with all the fans blowing either in or out. It can iether create pressure inside, albeit very slight, or the reverse, an ultra slight vacuum. Wither way the fans have difficulty moving air. If the canopy has an open back then this is not really a problem...

    De-nitrator construction

The drip rate can be controlled with a simple littel valve on the output, not necessarily the input. Yes it creates a little back pressure, but the pump you use should be very small and if it fails only cost a few bucks to replace. Also remember that the water is being pumped through a really...

Forgot to say, post a pic and somebody here can give you the nitty gritty on species and habits probably.

    What is this?

Could be one of several filter feeding crabs. usually not a problem since they are filter feeders, and they can be fun to watch.

Just got my new refractometer, but...

ignore the ambient temperature, it really shouldn't make a huge difference and if it does then that model of refractometer might not work. Calibrate it in the same place you are going to measure and if you use RO/DI then it should read 1.000 anyhow. I have the same type of ambient temperature...

    De-nitrator construction

I do not see any need for a sponge, that is what the bio-balls are for. The bacteria will grow in them and the vodka will flow accordingly. As for the 12 drops per second, that would really be a flow not drops and it will depend on the unit itself. It sounds like a decent level, but you should...

    De-nitrator construction

I built mine using the tubing on the outside of a 2.5 gallon platic pickle jar. I had about 60 feet of tubing coiled around the outside and then passing the flow through teh top via smalll hose barb connections. Then the whole jar was filled with bio-balls. the input had a tube going to the...

    nitrates rising

Sorry if I am the one that sent this thread into a tailspin. I agree with the water change idea, but I have always avoided such large pwc because no matter how close the parameters are it always shocks the hell out of my system. As for feeding the De-nitrator, I added a very small tube with a...
