    strange growth

little filter feeding worm, don't remember the actual name. You should see more around on your liverock

What are your slowest growing corals or ones that don't grow

Mushrooms don't grow in my tank, too much light. Also a blue ribbon grogonian, just a really slow one Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    RO/DI water question

You just need to test it with a TDS meter. If you're at 0 its working, if you're around 10-20 its time to start looking for new filters, and if you're at 200, don't use it.

    PH too high

Yes, testing pH is looking for dissolved salts. So, if your rodi unit is working, you shouldn't have any salts. So, inaccurate test. Additionally, some tests include things like borate, which also don't give an accurate measure. Test your salt water just before you add it back to your tank...

    Very first saltwater tank

I swear I'm not intentionally raining on your parade, and I think its great that you're excited about this set up. But I want to be honest, so you know what you're getting into. Filling your tank with tap water has done you in for a lot of headaches in the future, and its going to take a lot...

    Craig's 75 Gallon Reef Tank

algae sounds normal. Part of the cycle as everything gets balanced out. Excess silicates, probably diatoms? Could also be cynobacteria. Got a picture?

    Coral

lol, clams on the half shell, not a reef tank. Just grocery store clams. I think that tank had a 2 foot RBTA and a 6 inch long maroon clown that had been together for something like 20 years...clown was a jerk though.

How often do you water change?

And there you have it. I love forums for exactly this reason, if you're not quite sure the answer will arrive in time. Only thing better is reddit. Over there you get your answer and 600 different stories and maybe a really terrible water color

    Can I have some opinions

Rule of thirds - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia But to each his own. I'd have definitely saved myself a bit of a headache if I could just be satisfied, but for me there's always a rock that can be moved just a little, or the flow could just be a little better in that corner. Then it all has...

    Saltwater filteration

its also more cost efficient than carbon, as it can be recharged with some bleach and a quick soak. I used to have a little bag in my sump come to think of it...I have no idea where it is now.

    Coral

A lot of people love that figure-eight puffer, or spotted puffer i think its sometimes called. When in adolescence its a brackish water fish, but once in adult hood its fully adapted to marine life, and in the while lives in the ocean...so its a little strange that people keep them in...

    Can I have some opinions

I'm a real stickler for cohesive/structural looking live rock...having spent 3 years arranging mine and still not satisfied. So, my advice would be to move things closer together, getting a bit of negative space going, follow the "rule of thirds" and just experiment. If you've got a beer, and...

How often do you water change?

A rodi unit has a resin unit that works by forcing water through it, leaving only the H20 part, and creating "waste water" with the other stuff. the older the unit, and the more clogged the rodi gets, the more waste water is produced. Additionally, the more inefficient a unit is, the more...

    ATO with no sump options

I'm a budget reefer, so the Tunze and JBL options are a bit much for me. I bought a Aqua Lifter and I use a light timer, about $8. I mix Kalk in 7 gallons, and top off with airline tubing and a little plastic valve. It runs for about 15 minutes twice a day, and the valve just barely drips. It...

    AIO tank advice

You want to think about total volume here. Consider your power heads with your return, and thinking about total turn over. Personally I'd go for 500gph Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Baking soda for alk?

When you bake it you're creating sodium carbonate, rather than sodium bicarbonate. I think you should regular baking soda, without being it. If I remember correctly baking soda has a greater affect on ph when it is plain Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Coraline algae

Mine has been for a while now, and its a complicated answer. Yes, it can. But, it might be something else. Temperature fluctuations, low mag/alk, astrina starfish (god i hate them), ultra low phosphate.... Try getting your water checked, or if you have and you know you don't have any issues...

    Protein Skimmer

Personally, I can determine the composition of my skimmate from a simple taste test. A sample of about a tablespoon spread on a crustini, or perhaps as a delectable pallet cleanser. It was a really interesting read though. 26% of the sample was calcium carbonate? I want it back, save me...

    Protein Skimmer

People sometimes tend to overlook ORP and the importance oxygen plays in our tanks, especially in relation to LED lighting and internal temperature of corals. I run a 20L without a skimmer, from a monetary standpoint, but my 90 has one, and I wouldn't do without it. Further more a skimmer...

    Ph won't raise

If it were me I'd test or get my water tested with some pro kits. The kind that give a number, not a color. Hanah, or Red Sea Pro, maybe Salifert. Next, I'd make up some new water and get it tested the same way. Get the number, not the color. Process of elimination, if you know your water change...
