    Freshwater Flounder camoflage (video)

Really old video, but I thought you might find it interesting. Pretty amazing how difficult it is to see him!

Vulture catfish eating in slow motion (video)

My Vulture Catfish eating pellets in slow motion. Believe it or not, I had siphoned out all the poop two days ago. The Pleco who also is in the tank does a great job of immediately 'decorating' the sand. It's pretty awesome seeing the vacuum effect when they open their mouth and suck the food in.

Fish ID help - Pictus, or not?

Hi, Sold to me as Angelicus Catfish, I assumed at the time they were Pictus Catfish. But, they don't seem to have Pictus Catfish growth rate. Can anybody confirm? Video: Ignore the big fish who swims by, that's my Vulture Catfish. Thanks, Tim

    Severum ID?

The Severum naming seems a little confusing... There's red heads, red shoulders, orange (which look red to me) shoulders, etc. So... What is this guy? He came with his torn fin and those are air bubbles on the back of him, not ich. DSC_2056 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Soooo confusing. I hate...

Another three months of photos down...

I take photos in my tanks and then split them into three month galleries. As September just ended obviously I've just finished July-August-September. Here's the link: 2011 07-09 Aquarium - a set on Flickr Here's the link to all the Fish galleries (previous months, etc): Collection: Fish...

    Synodontis ID?

Two days after I got him this guy fell on the floor, flopped his way under the tank and I had to pick him up with my hand. He's doing fine, I eventually had my hand looked at and needed a few (3) stitches. So be careful picking up those Syn cats with your hands, ok? ;) He seems to have a longer...

Synodontis catfish, floor impact, flopping after jump...

I was netting one of my Synodontis cats to separate them (plenty of hiding places, so tried them together, but this 8-inch one was getting picked on too much). I netted him, lifted him out of the water and before I could put him into the bucket for transport to the other room he managed to jump...

New fish: Vulture Catfish - Calophysus macropterus

Really lucky last week, went into my local LFS and there he was. :) Knew it wasn't one of the catfish the store has regularly and he said it's the second one he has got in the past 15 years. Apparently they do not travel well and this has led to them being a rare item as it's difficult to...

Any larger cichlids which do not dig?

Kind of getting done with digging. ;) Are there any of the larger Americans which don't dig and preferably don't uproot plants?

75 gallon (un)planted tank stocking suggestions...

So I'm really torn on my new 75 gallon... I have access to a very nice fish store which will let me trade in/out any fish I want, so really I have no limits on what I can keep until they grow too large and I have to trade them. The tank is heavily planted with Amazon Swords. For the lower half...

She seems really entertained by my fish. :) More photos here: Collection: Suzie

In my tanks at the moment...

I swop and change fish (well, some of them). Lucky to have an LFS that does it willingly as long as I keep buying the latest fish I am into from their store. :) Here's a photo of each type of fish I am keeping in my tanks at the moment. I have three active tanks at the moment, five are in...

    Schooling fish for species tank?

Hi folks, I'm looking at making a bit of a change to my tanks. Both my 75s are done and stocked, but I'm going to re-do my 55, trading in some fish, etc. I'm thinking about a Tiger Barb species tank and I think that with my filter (Fluval FX5 400g on the 55g) I think I can eventually do about...

    Gap between aquarium glass

Just did a water change on my 75 gallon tank. The front (long) edge of the tank and the left side glass are not resting against each other. The silicone seal on the inside is obviously touching both pieces as there is no leak, but it's quite a gap on the outside and I'm just wondering what I...

    Colors on Silver Arowana?

I have a baby Silver Arowana and he first developed a blue and orange patch behind the gills, and now all his fins (bottom and tail) are developing a gorgeous red color. His body is a mixture of black and reds. It really doesn't look very silver at all except on it's head or from a distance. It...

Why does my Oscar get blocked up all the time?

My Oscar constantly seems to suffer from bloating/constipation issues. There's been a few times where I thought I was going to lose him and unfortunately he's going through it again right now worse than ever. I feed mostly Hikari Cichlid Gold, but also occasional flake, brine shrimp and...

Fin rot in a public aquarium, really!?

Silver Dollar | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Isn't that disgusting? Possibly more fin nipping than fin rot, but still... Wow... Apparently taken at Seaworld San Diego.

    Oscar Fish HITH

Hey folks, I have an Oscar that I got the other day. I noticed a small hole in his head when I got him, but am not really too concerned as my maintenance is pretty darned good and from what I've read that is the real deciding factor along with food quality. He came from a small tank and was fed...

    Fish behaviour no substrate

Has anybody ever put fish in a tank with no substrate? I today transferred some fish to a tank with no substrate, they were trying to swim through the bottom of the tank (I had paint sprayed the bottom and back the same color). They seemed to calm down eventually but I put in some of the...

    Second hand tank testing?

How long and in what way should I test a second hand tank I'm hopefully getting? I can let it stand outside full of water, how long and should I wait until the outside temp is more stable to test?

Anybody else first see features of fish with photos?

Quite often I first notice something about my fish after I have taken photos of them. The 'finer detail' of their features, if you will... Recently I first saw Ich on a fish (and treated it) due to seeing it on a photo. It allowed me to catch it early, at that point it was very hard to see with...

Clown Loach - can anybody confirm Ich?

Hey folks, I am already treating with salt, I started adding it last night and finished this afternoon. Already have good oxygen in the tank. I haven't raised the temp though as my home is about 82 already and I'm fine doing it a bit longer. Any of you who can recognize it, am I seeing Ich...
