I have a 38 gal with 5 angels and 3 serpae tetras. Can I have two or three pitbull plecos? Or is this too much? Also, I know they like temps between 68 and 78. Will they be ok in a warmer tank? (82)

The bulb says its T8, 17w, 8000K full spectrum daylight. Is that good enough for live plants?

All of this info is so helpful. I have a lot to look into now. All I kn.ow about my light is that it's the long florescent bulb that came with the tank. :p good to know that I can use plain ol gravel so maybe a combination would be good so the plants get some nutrients? Also in this process...

I believe the tank is 18" deep. So from the sound of it lighting is the first thing I should worry about. How about the substrate? What kind should I be looking for? I would like to be thorough but I don't want to get too high tech. For now it seems best to stay slow.

Yes absolutely. Ty. What about the plecos? Do you think the aquarium salt killed them? Should I wait till I do more wc before getting another? Is there a specific kind that will rat the brown algae?

My test strips are color coded so they're aproximate values.

Hi! Thanks for having such good advice on here. Is very helpful. So I am hoping some can help with this question. What is that rusty colored deposit that settles on my foliage and sometimes the glass? It easily comes off most of the stuff in the tank but makes the leaves look aweful!

Yea the one I couldn't find turned up dead this morning. But everyone else looks healthy and eating well. So I'm just going to leave the tank alone for now.

I guess I forgot to mention that. I have been using the old filter in to help cycle this tank. I heard that angelfish like rain water so that's what I used. Rainwater plus the old filter plus "stresszyme" to help reseed the bacteria.

I had my 10 gal. For a year without a problem. Then at christmas time I got the 38 gal. So this has all happened this month.

For testing kits I'm using mardel strips 5 in one and jungle amonia quick dip
