    carbon takes out ferts?

Freshly activated carbon removes fertilizer & medicines. I think if it's older than 2 weeks it's pretty much useless by then and won't remove fertilizers or anything else...In short, it doesn't do much good so just remove it. :P

    58 gallon lighting question.

I'm pretty sure it'd be low lighting. I'm no expert at lighting but 2 x 39 watts = approx 80 watts (and at 6500 k...) You'll need 150-200 watts for it to be medium light I think...

    Feeding plants

If you're just keeping Java moss and Java ferns you don't need any fertilizer in my opinion. These plants are really hardy and will survive in many different conditions, even low light. I'm not sure about crayfish eating them though..if it gets to be a big problem you may have to consider...

    Betta- Cloudy Eye?

I recently exposed my male betta fish to a guppy that had body fungus...I kept the 2 in the same hospital tank for about 6 hours. My betta had fin rot but I read that clean water will help him heal quickly so... I removed the betta after that and put him back in his original 10 gallon tank...

    Planting plants

I grow water sprite with its look-alike - water wisteria, which resembles it but has wider, bigger leaves. They go well together and grow really fast & get bushy like a shrub. =)

Dying plants whilst trying to cycle

Dwarf gouramis are considered peaceful but you can't house them with betta fish. Since they both have labyrinth organs they will fight each other. You can add 6 neon tetras (or other small tetras) and 2 gouramis tops in a 10 gallon. Or you can just do 4 gouramis, a few shrimp/snails...Try not to...

Lookin for Input - 55 Gallon Community

I think when the angels mature to adult size they will eat small fish (i.e. neon tetras). I'm not sure but wouldn't putting angels with rams be risky since both species get pretty territorial? You should definitely add more cory catfish. Maybe serpae tetras would be good but I'm not sure...any...

A comprehensive list of freshwater aquarium fish?

You could try borrowing books from the library...most should have a "pets" section with a couple good aquarium fish related books. :)

    Question?

White spots = Ick. Raise the temperature to 82 F or higher and add salt to the tank. Or you can buy medicine available at your local fish store.

    Cherry Shrimp questions

Awesome! I just started my own 5 gallon RCS breeding tank this morning. I use an internal filter, rocks and java moss. They seem fine. I bought them for $3 + tax each at the fish store but ordering online definitely seems like a better deal. As long as there's tons of plants in there they'll...

    snail eating a fish????

I agree. I'm pretty sure the fish was dead before the snail arrived on scene. I doubt any snail has the power to prey on fish..they usually come in to clean up the decaying body. Unless your tetra was a baby and the snail was huge....

    Question on good cleaner fish

Please don't let your cory catfish starve by letting them "scavenge" for leftovers...usually, unless you severely overfeed, there won't be enough leftovers on the bottom to sustain them and they'll starve to death. I agree you should supplement their diet with sinking shrimp pellets or wafers...

    cant scrub algae off?

I know it's probably unfeasible but I had algae that looked just like that...I had to take down the tank and scrub it with bleach and really hot water before it came off...If it feels slimy, could be a bacteria called Cyanobacteria, in which case you will need to turn off the lights and perhaps...

    moss

Java moss is by the far the easiest moss I've encountered. Impossible to kill and grows well on wood.

If it's just the tank and nothing else, I've seen people sell it online for $90.

Don't know what to do about cloudy tank HELP!

Yeah, your lighting is definitely insufficient for a 20 gallon tank and hornwort gets really messy when it dies (trust me, it took me a long time to net out the little needles...) - Your pH is very high...it's considered fairly alkaline and cory catfish don't like that. Also, cory catfish...

    Question?

Depends. They will nip fish with long flowing fins, especially if they are kept in a small tank. Also, they are schooling fish so they will need to be kept in groups of 6+ to stay happy.

ADFs and baby Silver Mollys - when?!

    Filterless 55 gallon tank?

Thanks shadowstars123! Sorry I forgot to add that I have 2 lighting fixtures. One's just a regular shop light but has 2 aquarium bulbs (32 watts each, one at 5000 k, one at 3400 k) and the other unit is a Coralife light bar which is at 6700 K, 28watts, for a total of what I listed up there. I...

    Consdiering El Nautral Setup, Questions.

Oh btw, you'll also need to add A LOT of plants at the very start and wait a week or two for them to settle down before you add fish.

    Consdiering El Nautral Setup, Questions.

Hi, I'm on the same boat as you so I can try to answer some of your questions. You don't need a filter at all if you don't mind seeing some unsightly particles floating in the water. You could buy a small internal filter to circulate the water...Don't buy a hang on back filter because you MUST...

    Filterless 55 gallon tank?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site but I've been keeping fish for 8 months now. I set up a new 55 gallon tank last week and decided to attempt to go filterless. 92 watts of light at 15,100 K. (what does the "K" stand for?) 10 hours a day. Heater. No filter, powerhead, co2 or anything else...

    White scum?

You could try doing more PWCs and use a net to scoop up as much scum as you can. How many fish do you have? Maybe don't feed so much? Could be oils/decaying matter caused by rotting food/plants? Just my opinion...:)

ADFs and baby Silver Mollys - when?!

I would suggest they be longer than 1.5-2 inches. Depends on the ADF. I once had one that ate 3 of my neon tetras...O_O
