    water condition

If you don't mind the particles then I wouldn't bother putting a lot of effort towards getting crystal clear water. It's entirely up to you because your the one who is going to be enjoying the tank. I personally don't bother with it because it doesn't bother me. Changing your filter floss more...

    water condition

You will most likely need more filtration, although frequent water changes does help. You could also try adding filter floss to one of your filters, or even have one filter used solely for polishing your water. This would mean removing any bio or chemical filtration media from that filter and...

    water condition

The water does not need to be crystal clear. It is common to find small particles floating in the water column. Although if you want crystal clear water it can be obtained. It is just a matter of how much effort you want to put into maintaining water clarity.

    5 gallon Sump Design

Yes, that will work. Although you don't need that last bend in the PVC(main tank end). The opening of the PVC in the tank will act as a surface skimmer aswell as determine where the water line is.

    5 gallon Sump Design

Well, your overflow is not shaped correctly, but yes. An overflow that drains into your sump and a pump that pumps water back into the main tank from the sump will work.

PVC should be fairly easy to find. Just check the nearest large hardware store. Edit: A PVC hang on tank overflow is definitely the least attractive option. But it works well, and if you painted it black it may be less obtrusive. Just be sure to do so with aquarium safe paint.

    5 gallon Sump Design

Very true. Although I was considering more that he would only need enough space to fit one piece of PVC, and that would only need to reach down below the water line by maybe an inch.

    5 gallon Sump Design

It is possible to use PVC to create a simple hang on tank overflow. It. Would take up a lot less space than a regular overflow box.

    5 gallon Sump Design

Yes, technically it could work, but it is very unlikely. Basically you would need both pumps to be pumping water at the exact same rate. This would be near impossible to accomplish. What you need is to replace the pump in the tank with a hang on tank weir or overflow box.

    Aggressive Chinese Algae Eater

Apologies, I miss understood your meaning.

    Aggressive Chinese Algae Eater

Flying fox are actually also a diferent fish entirely from the SAEs and CAEs. I have not had experience with them and therefore cannot comment on their aggressiveness. I've never had any trouble with SAEs being aggressive, although there area always exceptions.

    bolivian rams with cocatuoids

Here's a profile. Take a look, they are pretty interesting looking fish and can add a little variety to any SA tank.

    Start of a new 10 gal !!

I think we all need to be a little easier on Tom. Yes, he has made some fairly dire mistakes in setting up his tank. But chastising him isn't going to rectify the situation or encourage him to become a more knowledgeable aquarist. Instead we should be offering guidance, and solutions. First off...

    bolivian rams with cocatuoids

The difference is that both your apistos and the rams are cichlids. Cichlids tend to be very aggressive and territorial, especially when breeding. A bristlenose pleco will mostly keep to itself. I would suggest adding a shoal of tetras or hatchets instead.

    29 gallon stocking ideas

If she would be ok with small fish with big personality you could do a pair of rams or apistos. Then you could also include a small shoal of hatchets and a small shoal of tetras to fill the middle and top portions of the tank.

    29 gallon stocking ideas

A pair of rainbow cichlids or keyhole cichlids would be a good option. You would then be able to add a small shoal of tetras as dithers and maybe a BN pleco or two.

    Aggressive Chinese Algae Eater

Yes, SAEs are actually very good algae eaters throughout their life. It is the CAEs who stop eating algae when they mature. Not only do they then become more aggressive but they will actually latch on to other fish and start sucking their slime coat off. This leaves the fish vulnerable to disease.

How does this sound? --- 29 gal stocking

It would be a good idea to only choose one pair of cichlids. Two pairs in a 29g is asking for trouble. The keyholes would be ok in the 29g. I have no experience with the golden dwarf cichlids, but their size suggests the would be the better option. If you decide to get the keyholes I would...

    Killifish help !

Do you have any live plants in with the fry? If not, you should consider adding some java moss or similar. Plants not only provide cover, which is important for killies, but also encourage the growth of microorganisms which will provide a supplementary diet between bbs feedings. It would be best...

    Water Buckets

I'd be careful using a garbage bin to hold aquarium water. Some garbage bins contain fungicide(I'm pretty sure rubbermaid does, but don't quote me on that). Also, structurally they are not designed to hold water. That's a lot of pressure pushing out in all directions. It would probably be fine...

    proper dosage for fishless cycling?

It doesn't take much. Just add a couple of drops and test your water. If you get any reading at all it is enough. If it doesn't show up on your test add a couple more and test again.

    New Tank...YIPPIE!!

Sounds like a nice tank. Those CP danios will be nice. Personally I prefer rummy nose tetras to neons, but that's just preference. Neons are still a great choice. I'm glad to hear your going to be using live plants. Personally when ever I set up a tank and am not sure about what my plant...

    Brine shrimp hatchery...

The hatchery in question is actually meant to keep a steady supply of baby brine shrimp in the tank, not adults. Although you are correct about adult brine shrimp being quite a bit less nutritious.

    Brine shrimp hatchery...

I bought one of these for one of my fry tanks a while back and. Ended up throwing it out after a week. It did not work for me at all. Some bbs did find there way into the tank, but most of them got stuck in the hatchery's main chamber. It still worked s a hatchery but was harder to maintain than...
