Driftwood for my birthday. :D (I really need to charge my camera's batteries so I can get some decent pics).

How to clear up a foggy fish tank?

I have a tank that has been running since October, and it has the original cartridge in it. When flow is restricted, I rinse the cartridge with tank water. The water in the tank is crystal clear. I do a 50% pwc every week. This seems to be working well for me. :)

Thanks! :) I will def give that a try if the water change doesn't help. The wood had been stored in an attic for god knows how long so I think it's just especially nasty. I should have soaked it first. Lesson learned. I'm so impatient when it comes to these things....and it always means...

It looks awesome!!! I envy your clear water. :nono: I'm going to do a major water change and try to clear mine up, and then I'll post a pic of the driftwood. It's massive.

We're going to work on building the co2 reactor today. I am so broke that the tank will probably sit as is for a while after that....lol. Where is your build thread again? I want to see how your sand turned out! :D

Coming along SLOWLY...lol. I got some beautiful driftwood for my birthday. It had been used in an aquarium so I didn't soak it, and now my water is nasty. :nono: At least the driftwood is cool!

    My new Ghost shrimp!

My betta lived peacefully with a ghost shrimp for about 4 weeks until this morning when I found it dead, and the betta happily eating it. I suspect foul play.

    Corydoras_trilineatus dying??

That little tank would make a great red cherry shrimp tank. You could have several too! They are so much fun to watch and relatively inexpensive. :) I hope we didn't scare you away. We were all beginners at some point, and we have all overstocked a tank before we knew better (I certainly...

I've had terrible luck with rocks too. :( I bought 2 50 lb bags of blasting sand and used about 75 pounds. I think I probably could have gotten by with 50, but I knew I wanted to plant so I used a little extra. :)

How do I know how much electricity a lamp uses?

I use clip on lamps like that all the time for my smaller aquariums. Get a 23 watt daylight cfl spiral, and you're good to go (without going near the 60 watt limit AND you're getting the brightness of a 100 watt incandescent). :thumb: ETA that I haven't noticed a change in my electric bill...

I'm so jealous! You're pretty close to me.....I wouldn't mind driving to pick up some blue moscow guppies up if you think the ones that were left need homes. :)

    Mopani Wood

It probably leaches WORSE than most driftwoods. You'll need to boil it for a very long time or soak it for weeks to get it past the "tea" stage.

I love my husband. Just need to get the co2 going, and we'll be growing us some plants!! WOOHOO! :) And check out the little fans he installed. :)

I think you have to let it sit for like 24 hours to get an accurate reading....I'm not sure why that is. Lebanon is only like 30 miles from here....cool! :)

To the OP.... Evil? No. Mischievous? Perhaps. Anyone starting a thread like this has to KNOW it will get heated....lol.

Have you tested your tap water? If your ph is lower from your tap, it's probably the rocks. I can't seem to find any inert rocks in TN. :?

I will definitely keep you guys posted on my co2 journey. :) Just tested my ph with the high range solution, and it is off the charts. Bye, bye rocks. :( On a brighter note, I found a guy about 30 minutes from here who sells driftwood so I'll be going to his shop on Thursday to hopefully...

NOOB alert! Buying a co2 tank today....

One gauge shows how much is left in the bottle, and the other shows how high you have it cranked up. Since you only need a tiny amount for a fish tank, the needle valve lets you adjust the amount you are using even more to get it spot on. At least this is what I think I've figured out...
