Something ate my Beta and Guppy fins

Epilogue and Lessons learned: yesterday evening my wife pointed out that she had noticed that the blue striped Malawai Cichlid was chasing the other fish around. Now this had been predicted by an earlier post but I had denied it because I hadn't actually seen this behavior manifest in the tank...

Something ate my Beta and Guppy fins

ok thank you, I just retested a min a go and its gone down to about .15 I would estimate. I have also added an airstone. I had read on here that that might help grow the nitrobacteria that eat the Nitrate. I will retest in the am and if its still not zero I will do another pwc. Thank you Dave

I swear within 20 mins the water was clearer and looks awesome now the fish seem to float. I cut out the filter material from the...

Something ate my Beta and Guppy fins

I have never seen any aggressiveness from any ofthe cichlids. They are by far the most beautiful and interesting of them all by far. If worst comes to wore i will go with all cichkida entually. Its like having saltwater fish without all the reef hassle.

LoL Same tank same circumstances save, the fish didn't die off, that would mean that money would have to be expensed to replace them. I would have remembered that as money was extremely tight in our house, we had a .50 cent allowance every two weeks and that actually went quite a ways back then...

Old timer new to the new way of Aquarium Sciences

Thanks Aaron I appreciate the response. I appreciate the Nitrite advice as well. The fish business as well as the husbandry science has indeed come a long way in 40 plus years and there is a remedy and gadget for everything, its a bit overwhelming and I have a BS degree. :) I am happy the fish...

    Petsmart in Sterling virginia

This Petsmart has by far the largest selection of fish including african cichlids that I have ever seen. Their tanks and water are crystal clear and the people are great. Stay away from the Reston store its much smaller and tanks are filthy.
