    Leaving town for 2 months

I am not sure what a CUC is. So I am pretty sure that I don't have one. I can get somebody to feed my fish for short trips, but one of this length, I would be pushing it. Let's just assume that I don't have that person. So, topping off is not a problem. I can get somebody to do that. I am...

    Leaving town for 2 months

29 gallon FOWLR - no sump or skimmer I will be leaving town for 2-3 months. I will sell my three fish back to the store and be left with a fishless tank. So feeding the critters is not a problem. Now what? Should I drain the water completely? I don't want to lose all of my coraline algae and...

    Translucent web-like growth under rock?

Thanks for the quick response. I looked at the list of hijackers and I didn't see anything that looked like what I have. I tried taking better photos but that one I posted is the best that I could do. But, if you guys say that what I have is nothing to worry about, then I will let it be. Thanks

cant get this clownfish to eat

I had the same problem when I bought a small clown fish that was not tank raised. The guy at the lfs advised me that if he ate once and if it hadn't died after a week, that it would likely survive, and it would eventually eat when it was hungry enough. I have now had mine for over 6 weeks and it...

    Maximum Safe Water Change

    Night Time Lighting

Yestereday I was at the lfs and saw a power strip with a timer and special sockets that are for night time lighting. The strip would switch between day and night lighting based on the times you input. Anybody know how this works if you only have one light on top of the tank? I usually just turn...

    Open top

OK, so the light on my tank fits into the hood. When you use a ceiling light grid, do you dispense with the light all together or do you simply place the light on top of the grid? I don't have any coral or inverts that need lots of light.

Does this look like a healthy tank ??????

You can seed for coraline algae, or to take the long rout, you can buy a piece of live rock that already has some on it and wait for it to spead. That's what I did and it takes a long time.

    Open top

An open tank can help you keep the temperature down in your tank but you will have more evaporation and if you have "jumpers", you might come home to find one of your little buddies dead on the floor. Other than that, I have not read anything that would suggest that an open tank is too bad. One...

    turbo snails

If I pick up my turbos and put them on the hair algae, they will eat it, but if I don't do that, they never find some of it. Even when I do place them in the algae rich areas, they tend to eat a random pattern and then leave the area before completing the task. Such is life in the little tank.

    Help Identify Algea

OK, thanks. So, exactly how does one remove the hair algae, just scrape it off? Does anything eat it? Obviously nothing I have does. I have two turbo snails and four little hermit crabs.

    turbo snails

THat is great advice. Thanks. Do any of what you mentioned eat this stuff as my turbo snails don't seem to be touching it?

    Help Identify Algea

I think I have a few kinds of algea beginning to populate my little 29 gallon fish only tank. CAn somebody take a look at the photos and help me identify what I have. Is there such a thing as bad algea versus good algea?

    turbo snails

OK, so I have read advice all ofer the board on the number of snails per gallon and I settled on a medium and large turbo snail for my 29 gallon plus 4 hermits. Is that too few?

Something growing on my Turbo Snail

I noticed something growing on my turbo snail. It is tubular in shape, green in color, except for the end that is white. Does anybody know what this is? If so, is it good or bad? Thanks
