    Help with tankmates

Well when I bought them they were teeny, and everyone was happy. They were in an assorted Dwarf tank. This one Kenyi blew up bigger than all of the others. I dont live in a large fishtank community. The last time I tried to give away a Rainbow Shark for free it took two months of Craigslist...

    Help with tankmates

So if I bought an older Green Terror, you think I may have less trouble holding his own with the Kenyi? I dont typically buy adult fish because I want to get all of the life out of them. Seems like you pay more for an older one and you lost a year or two of their age already!

    Help with tankmates

I have a bit of a problem in my tank. I had a happy thriving tank that was well populated. I had a couple of different Cichlids and Pleco. Everyone was happy, there was a lot of energy and color. I was thrilled. I had this pretty little blue cichlid that I bought from a mixed breed tank. I...

    Green Algae Solution

Hi All! Havent been on here in ages. Had a few things change in my tank. Went on a trip and didn't touch my tank for a couple of days. Didn't do a water change before I went, and the water was already about a week old. Came home to a dead pleco. A thriving Cichlid tank has been overrun by...

    Snail Makes Sand Balls

I have a few snails in my tank, black, blue, gold, and ivory mystery snails. They've all doubled in size which has been fun to watch. The tank seems all healthy, so I'm not doubting that its normal behavior. All of the snails will at random times make a ball of sand held together by their...

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

I've seen these at my local pet stores... and I've always wondered if they're legit. They're always like $25 vs a regular siphon vacuum is like $10, so I've never dove into it. I can say that switching to sand has already hugely improved the look of my substrate. The fish go down and clean up...

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

Kuhli was in the tank long before all of the others. He had buddies and they all died off before I had Cichlids. Once all of my tropicals died I switched over to Cichlid and thank God I did. So much more active and fun. Kuhli seems to be fine, hes more active with the sand now than he was...

    DIY Filter

I've just built a large fish tank stand. I wish I would have catalogued it better, because it looks like a $300 stand, that only cost me around $30, but would cost anyone else around $120 if they didnt have stuff hanging around. If you want to know info send me a personal message! Anyway. I...

    Air pump question

I've never noticed anything bad from a less powerful pump. I had a lesser pump for a few months, the only reason I upgraded to a larger one was because I just wanted more bubbles. If you want a pump mostly for the looks of it you'd be fine with the lesser pump, if you feel that you need more...

    Painting back of tank?

I know that most acrylic paints will stick to glass pretty well... as long as its not subject to extreme heats. That may offer the ability to paint designs. This actually put a good idea into my mind to do this exact thing. Might look kind of cartoonish and comic bookish, but it would give it...

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

The playsand just makes the tank look dirty to me. Idk but that's just how it looks in my mind, but both the black quartz and the PFS look great. I'll have to find an opportunity to see them in person, those may be my solution.

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

Is there a brand that works best to use? I've made a point to always buy something that specifically says its aquarium safe on the packaging, so I dont like risking getting something that doesnt specifically say "aquarium safe" unless someone else has used it with success. I have white gravel...

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

240G I figured that was way overkill! I had a higher speed filter and the salesman talked me into this one because filter is designed to pass half the water through the media twice.

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

Oh, and I also overkill with filtration. My filter is rated for 50 gal and I've only got 29 gal.

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

The peacocks do go down to the substrate to pick stuff up, but its usually in between the larger stuff. I'm always so paranoid about cycling at all if I switch substrate. There seems to be such a perfect balance (water is perfectly clear, all of my numbers are good whenever I test, no fish...

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

I tried mystery snails, but they always get killed. Never eaten, but I just go look in the tank after a couple days and they're laying in the substrate with their trap only partially closed.

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

It's not really a major problem. No significant algea or growth. I feed once a day, and from time to time will miss a day. I have white substrate which is the major problem. Makes every little thing show up in the stones. I hate to swap the substrate out because I dont want a cycle. Just...

    Thoughts on Acclimation?

Hi All, Just wanting to hear around with what ways you acclimate your fish. When I first started my tank I would do the floating bag, and I ended up with about a 60% success rate after the first couple days. I did some research back then, and learned what the drip method is. I've since...

    Cichlid tank Scavenger?

Hello all. I have 2 peacock cichlids, and two kenyi cichlids, a pleco, a rainbow shark, and a kuhli loach. The water is crystal clear, and there's no significant algea growth... however, every time I feel them there's always food that makes its way down to the sediment, and it builds up over...

    LAZY Rainbow Shark

Parameters are all good. He's definitely the one doing the picking if anything. When he makes his lap around the tank he makes sure to nip at a couple cichlids to remind them that he's around. He doesnt appear to be ill. He's eating every time I feed and remains active with a lap every 20-30...

    LAZY Rainbow Shark

He literally lays there all day. He'll laying against the building in an upright position, then he'll sneak through the little hole when something interests him, just to make a lap around the tank and head back to lay back down. He had another cave a few months ago that I've since taken out of...

Identify Fish and Is behavior normal?

I'm building a couple of caves out of large PVC piping. One small on is already in. I'm going to get rid of some of the roman themed decor in exchange for a more natural decor. These caves take many many hours to make... especially with how small my substrate is that I'm putting on them.

Identify Fish and Is behavior normal?

Everyone great news! Everyone has sprung to life (except my lazy rainbow shark). I got the new peacock... covered the tank with the lights off for a full 24 hours. When I uncovered it they were all full of life. I gave them a treat of a dozen ghost shrimp which they happily hunted and...

    Six to one

I'm sure someone will either confirm or deny this... but I'm sure you could use pumps with hoses into a seventh tank with a master filter. It'd have to process a ton of water and a pump that moves enough water. There may be better ideas out there, but thats just the idea that comes to mind.
