Have just checked the levels in my tank having done a 25% water change 5 hours ago. Both ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrate is 5.

Thank you for that link it certainly looks like it could be fungus. Not sure about velvet as it is white not yellow but fins are clamped together. Are there any particular treatments that are the best?

No I didn't add ammonia while it was cycling. The two pet shops I spoke to didn't say anything thing about that but agreed that leaving the tank for a number of weeks was good. The nitrate and nitrite levels were higher but have gone down since I have added the fish.
