Pre-drilled is the only safe way to go! Read the book "the New Marine Aquarium" for good info. A hang on overflow can and will fail you during a power failure and you will end up with lots of saltwater on the floor. Live rock is sufficient for filtration. With a wet/dry you will still need...
Nitrates for saltwater critters is bad at much lower levels than with freshwater critters. Moniter and ifn you have excess nitrates in your tank then remove your biowheels.
As long as you take care of your tank's water changes you should not have a problem with the wheels/nitrates.
Coraline will come back with a vengence when you get the calcium up. Lots of stuff to bring it back but I am no expert on which is better/easier/safer...
This tank setup was a breeder for perculia clowns.
Could upgrade to a 40 gal breeder or even 65 gal tank pretty cheap with the same stand. The benefit of a breeder is that it has more surface area than a conventional tank. 36" long x 18" wide x 12" high vice 36" x 12" x 18".
More surface...
What type of setup is it? I assume a drilled saltwater tank..... Adjust the stand pipe for correct tank level (raise the return/stand pipe to raise the tank level). And make sure your return pipe fits snug in the drilled hole (make sure it has not come out of the hole)
How long for the water...
Also check how you inject "bubbles/air" into the system. You could have a clogged hose or even one that came off (mine goes into the inlet side of the pump via a venturi, if the air line gets pinched or comes loose I will overflow the cup)

yep, IMO, if you remove stuff that bacteria lived on then you need to wait til it "populates" on something else. The bioballs would be in a source of high oxygen water flow and would have been the main source of good bacteria for the tank. The "critters" will grow somewhere else but may take a...
For a drilled tank the hole is in the line going from your sump pump to the tank. I have the hole drilled in the 90 and I keep my nozzle about a 1/2 inch from the tank water level. When the power or pump is turned off I here air sucking thru the small drilled hole but as soon as the nozzle...
How far down does your tank drain? It should not be very much. If alot then maybe raise the return nozzles up until they are just under the surface of the tank water (maybe the return lines from your sump aren't breaking suction until the nozzles come out of water.......)
You can put your carbon in your wet/dry return tray, it also helps quiet it some if needed. I have a wet/dry and a magnum 350 and gave up on the magnum as anything but a way to move water around (no media in it). To big a pain to clean out and such...
Aquaclear 300 would be the one to go with. Cheap, efficient, and replacement carbon/filters are readily available. Put a PH or sponge filter near the bottom of the tank also to keep the water good and circulated.
