    CO2 equipment to purchase advice

I'm running this guy (except when I bought it it gave an MC122 pH controller) + a mazzei 584C running off a fluval 205. The mazzei is a venturi injector which accelerates the fluid, dropping the pressure, which results in a partial vacuum. Depending on the pressure drop, you can get anything...

    Another DIY led light thread!!!!!

I did one of these maybe 3 years ago, and it turned out pretty well. http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f20/diy-led-10-gallon-build-thread-alternative-diy-co2-thread-132058-7.html Is there anything specific you wanted to know? What sort of budget are we working with?

    DIY Sump

I had a 50 gallon rubbermaid tub as a temporary pond/mosquito tank, and it could hold water, but the sides bowed out quite significantly. I'm guessing the easiest solution would be to build a wood frame to hold in the sides.

    dKH very high

I remembered that we had some empty 55 gallon potable water drums sitting around, and I think I'm going to set one up for wc's so I won't have to dump water in the tank anymore and to take care of the KH and Na "problems". I have a magdrive sitting around, and am switching out the outlets around...

    dKH very high

So I've been following this schedule Our PPS-Pro Fertilizer Pack … Just Mix & Dose | Planted Aquarium Blog – Green Leaf Aquariums The tank is a 40B, and I've been dosing 4-5ml every morning, so ~.16g. I guess the reason this came up in the first place was that I was trying to calculate my...

    dKH very high

So I should have included this earlier, but I am dosing: CSM+B KNO3 KH2PO4 K2SO4 MgSO4 The dGH from the tap is 0-1, and 7 in the tank (probably from the MgSO4?) The only water in the house that is unsoftened is the hose outside. I do have RO water available in the kitchen, but it only...

    dKH very high

So, I tested our water a few days ago, and the dKH reading was 25. I bought another test kit and it arrived today and it was 23. This seems to be off the chart for most scales, so I was wondering whether this was an issue? The pH of the tap is 7.4-7.5 and I have a well and a water softener.

NASA Virtual Poster Session (I Need Your Help!)

Hey Guys, Some of you might know who I am, but given the typical forum turnover rate, that might just be a few. I was pretty active between 2004-2009, but college ended up kicking my butt, and I didn't really have the time to keep up with forums. I graduated in May, and am finishing up an...

    Hey Everybody

Hey guys, I'm not necessarily new to the forum, but college has taken up all my time, and I haven't really been able to keep up to date, so I thought I'd reintroduce myself. I started keeping fish way back in middle school (~9 years ago) because my gouramis were dying of ammonia poisoning (I...

    Two tanks connected together ...

It's the same reason why it takes a long time to empty a coke bottle/can. In order for the liquid to seep out, it has to be displaced by air (which is why blowing air in with a straw can evacuate it very quickly). If there is no air to displace the water (i.e. both ends are underneath the...

    Two tanks connected together ...

The best material is probably cast acrylic, but glass, extruded acrylic and polycarbonate would probably work as well. Mcmaster Carr is a good place to start, but it'd probably be cheaper to find a local plastics dealer.

DIY Led 10 gallon build thread/alternative diy co2 thread

Sorry for the megabump/necro, but I thought it would be appropriate to update/conclude the thread for completeness sake: After having a lot of trouble with the 2 earlier versions, I ended up with this: I made a stand out of conduit piping with a bender. I tried using zip tie mounts and wire to...

Marineland Double bright LED! worth the $ ?

IMO, off the shelf leds are either too expensive or too weak. You can make your own simply enough, and you'll have a better light and the satisfaction of building it yourself.

    LEDS

I'd also suggest building your own. Basically what you need are some high powered leds, a heat sink, DC power supply, and some way to attach the leds to the heat sink. Here is what I used: 40B 24x Cree Q2 WC bin led's 2x Meanwell eln-60-24 power supplies 24x Berquist Thermal Pad 1x aluminum...

    DIY Lighting

You don't want to buy your leds from radio shack. They'll be very weak and very expensive. Most common are cree, luxon, and seoul leds, but I think cree's are considered the "best". As for a driver, most commonly used are buckpucks, but there are also meanwells and thompsons (used by...

    LEd and MH question

LED's are quickly becoming a replacement for metal halides. They are vastly more efficient, produce more par, and run much cooler (I suppose something like efficiency). Most setups I've seen use metal halides with t5 or led. Generally leds are used by themselves unless they're used as moonlighting

    Shrimp questions

I believe that pH measures the amount of H+ or OH- you have in your water, while hardness measures the buffering capacity of your water.

    Kuilli loaches... Strange behavior

Is there any place for them to hide? If your tank is mostly bare, they'll tend to stick behind the heater or another confined space. That's fme anyways

Does 10000k t5ho benefit algae growth?

A bit late, but after revising my previous view, the higher the temperature of the light, the more you plants will "reach" towards the surface and the less they will grow outward (less leaft). If the plant "sees" enough red light, it will feel comfy, and will begin produce more leaves, but the...
