    Aren't Rocks....Just Rocks??

Well geeze. I have a paleontologist friend that I'm sure that I can get to come and read the thread. She may give a general description of the rocks that we're looking for, maybe. I know that the vinegar test isn't fool proof. I've known her all my life, and I don't know why I didn't think...

It all started at a county fair

OMGosh! I love the boat! Welcome to AA!

    Ich has begun...help!!!

I can understand not using chemicals for your fish, especially in a child's room if they are very young. I don't like the use of chemicals either. The "known to the state of California to cause cancer" statements are a bit disconcerting. (That and a bit of Melafix in the eye is bothersome) I...

How to set up an air stone?

Hmm...Here's what I did before I managed to get my air stone. I took a line of air tubing and put a few holes in it about a few centimeters apart. Put a piece of gravel in the end (I'm sure you could use something else, just what I used) and had it sit beneath the gravel substrate of the tank...

Who are your favorite underwater citizens...

Um...Goldfish. I just love 'em to death. My Myrrh has become so friendly, he's almost dog like I suppose. Well, he knows how to beg anyway. I just wish the little pooper didn't have such a large bio-load.

    Aren't Rocks....Just Rocks??

I definitely am interested! I also did manage to catch the hydrogen sulfide thread too. You are entirely well versed and thorough when it comes to research. You think I might be able to bribe you to write/research a few papers for school for me???

    LOL...great minds and all that...

    Fish stress?

No...I wouldn't take the fish out. And depending on the water conditioner that you use to treat the replacement water, they should have a stress coat or other additive (maybe) to relieve the stress that the fish go through. I use a vacuum when doing PWCs, and the fish don't mind it so much...

    Anyone heard of this fish

Heard of it only through the internet. Found off the coast of Australia and Tasmania. Extremely rare supposedly. The thing gives me the creeps every time I come across it. I guess it's pretty in a fugly sort of way...lol.

    Aren't Rocks....Just Rocks??

@Shadowraven: Thank you so much for answering my questions before I just went out and picked up rock and hoped for the best. I used to collect rocks for a hobby and can usually tell the differences between them. I think I'll use a bathing/bleaching process to sterilize. Though I'm still not...

New Tank with Stringy White stuff Growing...?

I just got home from work and checked a tank that I have cycling. Looks like I have the same stringy white things. I wish that I could show a pic of it...still can't find the memory card reader. I would just keep an eye on it for a few days. All should be kosher though.

New Tank with Stringy White stuff Growing...?

Newfishgrl...I just noticed that we're both in Texas. I'm in East Texas, Tyler area. If you're in the same area, it is probably the water quality. Just a thought.

New Tank with Stringy White stuff Growing...?

I did a fish-in cycle (noob) and had this sort of bloom show up. After a few water changes, it went away by itself. It probably has something to do with the water quality. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I believe I had the same thing and it went away. My fish doesn't seem any worse for wear...

    Goldfish: Shredded tailfin

Update: Things are looking wonderful. Myrrh's tail is healing, we lost a little bit more, but now it really looks like it's coming back. I really wish that I could show pics of him...but still have not found the memory card reader. Thank you for the advice and your help. It's much appreciated!

    Aren't Rocks....Just Rocks??

Okay, I get that test. Is there another non-chemical way to sterilize the rock? I've seen some posts on other websites that state to bathe the rock as opposed to full out boiling it. I guess that would still be chancy though...

    Aren't Rocks....Just Rocks??

Are there certain rocks to avoid? Or is it just rocks in general?

    Aren't Rocks....Just Rocks??

This is what I was thinking. Boiling rocks? I believe that it has something to do with the water content in some rocks. I'm not sure. After doing a search, it seems this is true. I don't know if it's the rock type or what is a determining factor for this. Honestly, I would love to know more...

Would you drink your tank's water?

I don't know about drinking tank water. I did find a discarded piece of air tubing from when I changed air pumps in my kids' room...chewed.

    Goldfish: Shredded tailfin

I took the decorations out last night. There are a couple of them that I was concerned about, the little fake branches looked rather sharp to me. I'm going to get a lilly bulb from Walmart the next time that I go, will probably be within the next couple of days. No tank mates other than a...

    Goldfish: Shredded tailfin

Melafix and salt purchased, I've added the Melafix, but I have not added the salt yet. I did a PWC earlier this morning, water is still stable. I just hope this works. At least the blood streak I noticed this morning has reduced in length.

    Goldfish: Shredded tailfin

I'll take your advice and buy some Melafix and salt. I searched all over for my memory card reader and I think the kids did something with it. No pics. For now I'm going to remove the plants and I do have QuICK Cure, but I don't know if that will help him or not. I really don't believe that...

    Goldfish: Shredded tailfin

About a month ago, I purchased a Shubunkin Goldfish from Walmart. Being impulsive, I managed to not have ANY information on fish before buying Myrrh. So...we're doing a fish-in cycle. I have him in a 10gal tank (there is a pond in his future), and now knowing how dirty the little boogers can...
