    Stocking tips and ideas

If I ever started over with my 10g, I'd probably get rainbow darters. The only thing I'd be really leery about is the whole indicator species thing (read: first to keel over) but they're riffle/stream fish so the tank would have a lot more filtering than a tropical tank anyway.

    Plants

If the tetras could talk they would probably vote for anything on that list that floats... it brings out their colors more too. Just make sure there's some open surface because the gourami need to go to the surface for air every so often. Hornwort, stonewort, maybe anacharis if you're stuck...

Was thinking more along the lines of tribbles, lol. That's awesome that you took the bigger ones back... hope your stocking goes well. :)

    will goldfish eat other fish???

The other fish may have made quick work of the bodies. Did they sell those black and white fish as iridescent sharks? If so, please consider taking them back to the pet store (they're tank busters) and pick up a test kit regardless.

    Overcrowded???

If that's a common pleco, it's good that it's still small... easier to take 'em back before they get longer than the care sheet they came with. If it's another kind of pleco it's still a pleco and will churn out waste like nobody's business if properly fed. Unless you really like it and feel...

    Overcrowded???

The number or inches of fish in a tank has nothing to do with whether you have a problem. What does is behavior, needs/sensitivities, size of the individuals, and bioload. There are sites like aqadvisor to help check a stocklist for problems, but they miss things like how open/planted fish want...

    tap water okay for fish?

Thank goodness... glad I don't need to worry about it hurting the fish! Now to do something about covering up the smell, lol... can't wait for flood season to be over with.

    tap water okay for fish?

I've tested the basics and it's good on those... it's other weird stuff that I'm worried about. And the smell is like rotten eggs... I already use a carbon filter in the tank but anything other than that isn't really possible because I live in a college dorm.

    tap water okay for fish?

I somewhat recently moved to an area that gets flooded some years. This is one of those years. So far the city says our tap water is still safe for people but it has started to reek since the last time I did a water change and I'm worried that it may not be safe for my fish. There are...

    AqAdvisor Stocking Calculator

Tends to err heavily on the side of caution when it comes to size and behavior which is good for newbies but annoying for others.

Unexpected guest. I need a crash course in with Beta Fish.

Get a ten gallon tank if you can find the space. Pretty much everything from decent heaters with temp dials to fish meds are either more difficult to work with or nonexistant for smaller tanks. Your betta will love the extra room to swim too.
