Hi Hakan thanks for your reply. The tank is only a small 10 gallon. I have two filters: one undergravel, and the other an Interpet PF2 filter. I have been 'feeding' the tank very small amounts of fish food every 12h. Thanks, Rik.

Hi all If you wouldn't mind, take a look at my water quality readings over the past week and you'll see that my ammonia trends from 1 to 2ppm, nitrite 2 to 5ppm and nitrate between 20 and 80ppm. I do a 10% PWC when the nitrates start to rise, which seems to be keeping them around the 20-40ppm...

The site is built in ASP.NET running on the Windows Azure platform. I use jQuery for certain UI elements and the backend is SQL Azure.

Cool... At this time I don't have any plans to make this an open source project, but in the near future I will be releasing an API which will let you create your own client apps to interact with the site. I will happily make sure you're one of the first to get a chance to access the API! Thanks

Thanks for the advice. So as the cycle completes, would the pH change anyway? Just confused as to why the tap water going in is pretty much neutral but when it's in the tank, it's pH is higher. Also I am noticing as the tank is continuing to cycle, it's starting to smell more ... is that normal?

Hi all I have just purchased an API Master Test Kit on the advice from other forum members and after proper testing, I can see now that my new tank (still cylcing - no fish) is at pH 8.2. What pH is desirable for a community tank - am I correct in thinking this should be 7.5? Are chemicals...

They look great, I want one! :) It seems the nitrite level is falling a little and I am now detecting nitrate. Can't test ammonia yet as my strips don't cover it. Hopefully the API test kit will arrive tomorrow!
