Invert Deaths and Well Water Test

Just wanted to add that my standard water parameters are fine, and I do weekly PWCs. I've also added a cuttle bone.

    White Spot on Lip

Getting close to 3 months now, and mine are still affected. Some days it appears to get a little bigger, but generally it stays the same size. Other than that, they seem to be happy and healthy. Wonder of it's a genetic thing?

Invert Deaths and Well Water Test

I am having a rough time keeping snails and shrimp alive. I've tried multiple species, from multiple sources, and the best I've been able to do is keep a couple apple snails alive for a few weeks. I recently had a inorganic chemical and metal test done on my well water, and attached the...

    quaranteen tank?

+ 1 on the quarantine tank. And I recommend keeping new stock in it for at least a month. I'm currently treating my QT for an ich breakout that didn't appear until the beginning of the third week.

Suggestions for a 20L Species Tank?

Thanks for the ideas everyone! The dwarf cichlids have really piqued my interest. Kribs and Apistos particularly. Any major pros/cons about either one?

are freezedried bloodworms and brine shrimp bad for fish?

Soaking in tank water allows the freeze-dried food to absorb moisture and reconstitute into a form that won't swell as much inside the fish after it's eaten, which decreases the chance of bloating.

Suggestions for a 20L Species Tank?

I just picked up a 20 gallon long at the Petco $1/gallon sale, and I’m thinking about doing a species tank, and maybe try my hand at raising a few little ones. I kind of like Endlers, but I have soft water that would be much more suitable for egg-layers. Basically, I’m looking for something a...

are freezedried bloodworms and brine shrimp bad for fish?

Frozen or live is preferable, but you can get away with freeze-dried IF you soak it first.

My Tank is a Nerite Death Trap!

I spoke to soon about my apple snails. They stopped moving about 3 days ago, and I pulled them out today, dead. They lived for less than a month. I can only assume they died from whatever killed the nerites. Again, the water parameters are excellent. I am so frustrated! :banghead:

    Atlantis Underwater Island?

I may be mistaken, but I believe the idea is that the crab can enter/exit into the main tank through an opening at the base of the habitat.

Do u soak ur pellets before feedin?

I give my betta NLS pellets dry, one by one. He barely lets them hit the water before he pounces. If it's quiet enough, I can actually hear the crunching!

    Water Hardness for Hatchets?

Thanks Dennis. After I posted the question, I checked and found that the majority of my other tropicals fall in a similar hardness category and they're doing fine. Appreciate the response!

    Water Hardness for Hatchets?

I'm wanting to add Marble Hatchets to my planted community tank. Liveaquaria.com recommends a KH of 10-18 for the Hatchets, but my tank currently has a KH of 2 and GH of 3. pH is about 7.3, so that appears to be fine. I recently started using a cuttlebone to add calcium for my Apple Snails, but...

My Tank is a Nerite Death Trap!

Strange for sure. I tested for copper as well, but no problem there, either. Interestingly, I also lost an entire 3g tank of new RCS over the span of 2 weeks, and just chalked it up to bad stock. But now, I don't know. I did pick up a cuttlebone yesterday afternoon, and placed it in the tank...

My Tank is a Nerite Death Trap!

Well, at both lfs they were in tanks with freshwater tropicals, so I have to assume freshwater.

My Tank is a Nerite Death Trap!

What the heck is going on? I've tried twice now to introduce Olive Nerites to my tank, and both times they have died within 24 hours. :( In both instances, they seemed fine and were crawling around inside the bags, but after drip acclimating them and placing them in my tank, they moved around...

Have had a constant ammonia reading

Also, check your tap water for ammonia as well. The .25 may actually be coming from your pwc.

    Favorite freshwater fish

Otos! I have six that I originally added to clean-up a diatom outbreak (which they quickly did), and they have easily become my favorites. They are little hyperactive eating machines. So much fun to watch!

    White Spot on Lip

Thanks Hukit. I'll keep an eye on it. Coincidentally, after I did the weekly pwc this evening, it seemed to look a little better.

    White Spot on Lip

Sorry 'bout that. I think I fixed the problem, but let me know otherwise.

    White Spot on Lip

White Spot on Harley Lip One of my Harlequin Rasboras has had a single white raised spot on his lip for about 2 weeks now. I haven't noticed any other spots anywhere else, and none are on my other fish. He seems to be healthy otherwise; eats fine, swims normally, etc. It may be getting larger...
