Nothing at all wrong with weekly water changes.. I have been doing them for the last 3+ years this way....and will periodically do a 20% change.. Stick with what's working for ya. Know your tank and your tank personality... Per Mark Calahan... Lol

Not sure if I've made a mistake by putting this star in my 75 or not... Sandbed is only about 2" I know there is loads of life in it small brittles everywhere etc... But sand was looking kind of crappy.... Added star on advice of friend.... Now reading it can wipe out live sand bed rather...

Yea thanks it a 75 gal w/30 gal sump. Just added about 3 cups-1/2" to one side of the tank, but guessing it has blown some and diatoms are around on top...

Added some new sand to existing 3 yr old sandbed.. Getting a pretty bad diatom dusting.. Guess this is to be expected?? Thanks

Just not looking for something you rarely see.. All of the fish in my 75 & 29 are out and about all the time... Only thing I don't get to see very often is a large brittle star in the 75.....with the limited amount of species we are able to keep , healthy, just want to make wise decisions....

They won't put it on a sandwich more than once.. Lol..... Usually have it marked with the day I mix it......

I mix rods & mysis (strained first) in one of these condiment containers..... A squirt when you need it, works great..... Make up enough for a week ...mixed with tank water &.. Kept in the fridge of course...

I would start thinking about new bulbs if you still have stock bulbs that came with that fixture they are prob really weak... Check out a couple ati bulbs. And more water movement . Blast that rock with turkey baster and syphon out the best you can..... And yea hey melosu....Lol

How old are the bulbs? How long do you run them each day?

First thing is not to overfeed the tank... Then you need more water movement,cyano will first build up at dead spots.... What type lighting are you using?

Yea I have an auto top off... Temp seems pretty stable too, just wanting to add some more actinic or blue lighting.??

Are you getting some red slime algae on your sand bed and existing rock?

You should be ok adding some more rock but looks like you need more flow as the cyano is spreading....

Ok thanks , again yours look look great are they cloned from one? I have been researching led light strips to add a little more blue to the cube but having a hard time deciding because not sure any thin strips will punch enough light thru to see with halide bulb.. Then There is the heat issue...

Yea it's in a 29 gal bio cube, k2- viper w/14k Phoenix bulb about 8" off the water. Moved from 10"..it has only moved once. To top of the rock. All conditions seem great...any closer with the light ant the zoas and others could be roasted. Have a new bulb on hand but was going to wait awhile as...

Haven't seen many bubbletips stretch their foot like this and basically stay this way... Moved up one time to top of rock and is under 150w 14k Phoenix bulb... Eats really well???

Good to know, but luckily this ones not going to die.... Actually looks really happy after that feast...and you do realize they can and do trap and consume large fish when they can?Lol
