Work in progress (long) , updated 09/10/07

looking great. I've gone through the bit of not enough filter changes/water changes too, tho I stopped adding ferts... Just had some bba. I am going back to the once a week water change, once a week filter maintenance regime now.. not sure if I'll add more than potassium and micros tho.I know...

    South Asian Blackwater tank

the kind of tank you are describing usually has a ph of close to 6. I don't know that I'd choose that if my tap were 7.8. my tap happens to be 6.0 naturally so that is what I've created... maybe it would be better to consider rainbows, ect. They like harder water and you can go with what...

    ALGAE, ALGAE & MORE ALGAE!

Also if your nitrates and phosphates are rising without dosing, you need to consider if you are overstocked. Algae will thrive in an overstocked tank almost whatever you do. Clean your filter and bump up your water changes. There is ammonia before there are nitrates in your tank (that is not...

THe great cut from 136 WATTS TO 68, 2 weeks later

I like the water changes.. I just think it must be better for there to be cleaner water for the fish than what a closed system provides... is that wrong now that I've been cured of hld? What do you think about cutting dosing in half? the thread algae seems on the retreat with excel...

    How do you raise pH?

I so agree . There is no reason to worry if your ph is low due to co2. The fish don't care. What hurts fish is changing the percent of dissolved solids in a tank, like when you try to "adjust" your ph or kh. leave it alone!!! and as someone with a milwaukee meter I would say save your money...

No More KH+ - Please Advise

no reason to mess iwth your kh at all.. use a drop checker to measure co2 and enjoy the plants you can grow in soft water!

I left for a week and my tank went to h*ll.

Plantbrain's answer to me when I thought old bulbs were causing my algae was simple : less light doesn't cause more algae. Check co2.. in your case since you are not injecting research is non-co2 tank methods.. and really olive nerite snails will clean your glass in one night

Beard Algae & High Phosphates in new tank. HELP!

most important nutrient is co2. with co2 the plants will use phosphates and nitrates.. but you need co2 or to follow a strict non-co2 method first.. search threads for plantbrain on both topics

One week in, from 4.5 wpg to 2.5 wpg

Kaz, no matter how great I'd get a scape to look, the tank was completely over grown in about 5 days.. God help me if I had to skip a week of serious pruning, the fish could barely swim and the plants being shaded by the fastest growers would fall apart. I lost 2 batchs of glandulosa that way...

    I agree. Good job sir!

One week in, from 4.5 wpg to 2.5 wpg

And everything is still growing. Ludwiga Ver. Pantanal, tonina belem, tonina fluviatilas.. the glandulosa was looking sad before and still is. my biggest challenge is I took the top off the tank (acrylic) and am having a harder time maintaining levels of co2... I am creeping up.. leaving only...
