To those of you with Acrylic tanks

Thinking about upgrading my 48x20x18 to a 72x24x24 and for the weight reason am thinking of ditching glass. I have read and read about the subject, but wondered what the real world thoughts are about scratches and yellowing? I am clumsy, I would take out all the rocks in the tank increase the...

    Battered Green Terror

That was my thinking, but its more a case that when the lights go off he likes to have a huge splash about; create some over and let GT get some rest. Do I need to treat the spot though please?

    Battered Green Terror

One of his scales has now fallen off, leaving a tiny dab of a red spot behind. Any additional steps to protect him please? I am going to re-organise the tank tomorrow and create plenty of hiding spaces. I can only guess that the godzilla of a plec is giving him grief at night; why after a year...

    Battered Green Terror

Not sure who could have got him, think everyone else might have mugged him for revengie on night! He is getting there, but seems to have lost his edge, rather than coming up to me and giving grief he now goes and hides. The silver dollars might be happier now!

    Battered Green Terror

Hi, Woke up the other day to see that my Green Terror looked like he had been through the wars during the night. Was very pale in colour, fins down, hiding at the back; very unlike him. Only a few scales missing, just looking very worse for wear. A couple of days later he is looking better...

    Old tank, new problems

I only have a NO2 and a NO3 kit; I have just bought an ammonia one online to check that too. So I did a test. 50% change, left it one week. NO2 and NO3 both at zero Left it another week; NO2 at zero, NO3 very very red. I didn't think I was over stocked. I have a 4x2x2 tank. In it are: 1x Very...

    Old tank, new problems

Six months down the line and I am still having problems. Doing a 50% water change a week, but think that is too long after a water test today. I have even upgraded both pumps to Eheim Pro 3 600s (moving the old media into the new pumps). All I can think of doing next is this: The bottom two...

    Old tank, new problems

I'd say its frustrating. 6x25l buckets in the morning, and its looking like I will have to repeat that at night now as well. Oh well, at least I know what the problem is now, and have a way to measure it; just need to count on down the days.

    Old tank, new problems

So, two nice and proper test kits in my possession, almost felt like i should get a lab coat too :) Turns out NO2 is at 0, but NO3 is between 10 and 20. At least I can now empirically see that I have a problem. Will do a 50% then test again and see how much it drops down by. Thanks guys!

No prob. Guess all the exercise will do me good for the next couple of weeks :)

    Old tank, new problems

K, will pick some up tomorrow. All this rapid gill movement does suggest that the water is not good. There is nothing else that could be causing it, is there? I suppose until I know the true reading its not possible to guess how long this will go one for, but I am presuming that having to do a...

    Old tank, new problems

Well the strips on my tester have only just changed colour, showing no more than 10 for NO3 and less than 1 for NO2.

    Old tank, new problems

Well, a week in and as well as doing a 50% change in the mornings, I am having to do another smaller one later on, and I might have to make that a second smaller one later still. Any ideas how long I will have to keep this up please?

Pump valves closed for 48hr; smelly

Hi, Just been the biggest plonker ever. Last water change I forgot to re-open the valves on one of my eheim external pumps. So its been sitting there, on, with no flow for around 48hrs. My, did it smell :) Once I have washed the media off with tank water, am I okay to still use it? Or has it...

    Old tank, new problems

I do have a bubble hose that runs down the length of the tank, but its a very fine line that comes out. Time to get another air pump then!
