This may seem to be a dumb question but...

I would add a nice piece of driftwood. I will soften the water, and will bring PH down naturally and gradually. It looks nice too :) Waffleman

It is still hanging in there but it is starting to get yellowish spots. Just yesterday did I move it over in my 5G quarantine tank. This way I can...

I'M BACK!!! And I need to know what plants are slow growing?

For a comprehensive list of slow growers, I recommend an advanced search on the Tropica website. Their list is quite extensive, you should be able to find some stuff to your liking. My choice would be micro or pygme swords for the foreground. HTH Waffleman

Any body used Osmocote as fertilizer?

Osmocote works fine if you put it in the bottom layer for the substrate. When I inially set up my tank, I used kitty litter (=pure clay) as the bottom layer and added some osmocote to it. theen I covered everything up with Fluorite. The plants grow like mad and no algea problems. now I add 1/2...

    KH/pH and CO2 questions

You could easily raise KH by adding baking soda, 1 tsp per 20G will increase KH by a small amount. You should keep monitoring. That is something I've been doing in different tanks. You may notice that the PH will go up slightly, due to the increased buffering capacity. I found the most...

LFS means local, not nationwide. I generally stay away from that place. but once I had a good deal there when the people didn't know what they were selling. Just brown plants or green plants. I actually ended up with a big bushel of Alternanthera reineckii (nice red stuff after I got it in the...

    Lights requirement... Im confused !!

Julicat, the 50/50bulb will encourage algae growth. I would get a 6700K or 10000K bulb. Those 50/50 bulbs are great for reef tanks, as they need coraline algae. Waffleman

    Lights requirement... Im confused !!

I believe the real answer is that what is important is the Lumens that the light puts out. As one pointed out a PC of the same wattage will put out more lumens (units of light) than a regular fluorescent bulb. What goes along with brightness is the Color temp. of the bulb. What our eyes/brain...
