If the other fish are fine, it's probably not some particular thing in the water, but could be the quality of the water. Many algae eaters are very sensitive to water conditions and quality. I'd recommend changing 25% of the water every two weeks, at least. I personally change 25% every week...

Most likely, he was sick when you got him, or you didn't acclimate him to the tank long enough. I'm curious, did you get him at a chain pet store like Petsmart?

Hee hee. It's not the guppy. Like Corvus said, it's probably the pleco, unless you have other fish in the tank.

78 F seems a bit high, I'd say 75 F would be better. Some species of molly and guppies can hail from water that's as low as 64 F. 75-76 is what I'd recommend.

I'd say not, unless you have the filter blasting the water out (which isn't good for most fish) the filtered water won't reach the other end of the aquarium.

He could be a runt, and it's even possible that he's a different species, though I'd have to see him to be sure, of course. There's nothing really wrong with runts, they just aren't as big (of course :) ) and sometimes don't live quite as long.

How much of a water change did you do? Did you condition all the water, and was it the same tempature (or very close to) the water in the aquarium? If the water is colder, or much warmer, than the aquarium water it can cause heavy stress.
