Cheers. Still think I might be being too clean though :)

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

Ok I'm gonna sound even dumber ... when you guys say filter media what do you mean? My tank has an inbuilt filter (black sponge with white sponge on top). When I clean the tank / change the water I always wash out the pump, tubing etc. and the white sponge (I leave the black sponge alone cos I...

I'm doing water changes every day too. Still having the same problems you were though :( What med is working for you?

    Tail Rot or Self Mutilation?

I already did six days with Multi Cure (Malachite Green, Methylene Blue and Acriflavine). Honestly I didn't see much change. He's appetite and everything else seem ok. He's plenty active and still eating like a little piggy (hence the name) and his fins / tail keep showing a bit of regrowth and...

    Tail Rot or Self Mutilation?

Nope ... the only other thing I can think of is that his fins are getting damaged being sucked through the filter. He sleeps there EVERY night. It's actually kind of cute. As soon as I turn the bedroom light off and get into bed he heads straight for the filter and stays there until I turn the...

    Tail Rot or Self Mutilation?

Hi By this stage some of you may know about the ongoing issues with Piglet the Betta as I have already posted about him a few times. I am starting to suspect however that his 'tail rot' may actually be him nibbling at his own tail as I almost caught him doing it yesterday (staring at his tail...

Sweet. Do you think six days is enough on the Multi Cure? As I said he's due for a 100% water change. Sara

    New Baby Betta Advice Wanted

Cheers for the advise. He's not showing any signs of stress at the moment so I figure I'll keep going as planned. The big thing I'm trying to avoid is killing off most but not all of the bacteria with the Multi Cure and then ending up in the same position in two weeks time. That's why I thought...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

I think that's just the Australian brand name. The main ingredients are Malachite Green, Methylene Blue and Acriflavine.

JackSpades: I'm certainly no expert, but I've heard that you're not supposed to use Melafix with bettas as it can coat their labyrinth organ and make it hard (impossible?) for them to breathe. At the very least, you should check into the accuracy of this - for Piglet's sake! I read the same...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

Siva: No, I would definitely avoid adding plants until salt treatment is over. Using multi cure, melafix and salt at the same time is not a good idea. Mixing too many treatments at once will usually do more harm than good. Also keep in mind afer 11 days the fish is suffering organ damage from...

    New Baby Betta Advice Wanted

Kurt has been re-named Piglet as he eats and looks a little bit like like one with his little upturned nose. He certainly got over his shyness quickly and is now plenty feisty and friendly. I'm having issues at the moment with fin and tail rot ... I think he may have come to me complete with a...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

Ok so up to day 4 of treating with Multi Cure, aquarium salt and 1/5 of the recommended dose of MelaFix. I did a 50% water change yesterday and just added half of all the meds I added the first time to the new water. I'm gonna keep doing this for 9 days (changing 50% of water and re-dosing every...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

****. It's so frustrating isn't it? Not much to report I'm afraid. The fin rot isn't getting any worse at the moment but I'm guessing it will take a while to really see any improvement regrowth wise. The dosage for my tank is 2ml so I'll do a 50% water change and add another 1ml and some more...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

Saltpuppy: I'm on day 2 of treating my little guy with Multi Cure. Tanks bright green but he's not scratching and I think there may be a little bit of regrowth on his tail. Not sure what the brand name is in the US but the main ingredients are Malachite Green, Methylene Blue and Acriflavine. I'm...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

Sorry ... gotta laugh. My other half just called me from the aquarium. Along with the Multi-Cure he's spent another $30 or so on plants that won't be killed by anti-fungal treatments to improve the water quality. So here's the breakdown. Tank with Built in Filter $120 Water Heater $30 Pebbles...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

I'm thinking of you all. Spent half the night worrying about my betta (Piglet) suffocating in MelaFix, so as soon as I got home from work I rang the aquarium and they suggested trying Aquamedi Multi-Cure instead. The guy I spoke to said that MelaFix is ony really any good as a preventative or...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

God I know what you guys are going through! My last Betta lived in a fish bowl for 5 years with no heater, no filter, a few live plants and bi-weekly water changes... no problems. The new one with the perfect tank and perfect water conditions and heater and filter and Summer House in the...

    New Baby Betta Advice Wanted

Thanks :) I was just doing some reading online and it seems to be fairly normal for them to be a bit timid at the start. My last little guy was given to me complete with tank so he'd already had time to get used to his environment. It's really funny though cos in the store the newbie (Kurt) was...

    New Baby Betta Advice Wanted

Cheers. I used your plant trick and he seems to be dealing better with the flow from the pump. His new thing is sleeping up against the filter at night cos for some strange reasom he seems to like the suction. He's deff. an odd one. He's really shy for a fighter. My last one went nuts every time...

    New Baby Betta Advice Wanted

Hey. Not having too many problems with water loss as yet but it's bloody freezing in Melbourne at the moment so possibly it's just not warm enough to evaporate anything :) I left the filter on overnight and he seems to be dealing with it better although I still don't think he's a big fan. He...

    New Baby Betta Advice Wanted

Don't worry about the spelling. Mine's terrible at the best of times:) I will deff. try the silk plant thing and invest in an ammonia alert. I haven't had the tank long enough to have trouble with evaporation yet but I'll let you know. I do have pics ... just can't work out how to post them. Try...
