Cycling with Dr. Tim’s Fishless Prescription

Thanks! Would we be able to add 2-3 more tetras once the cycle is completed to have a larger “school” of them? I’m not dead set on a betta tank, by the way. My daughter wanted one because they are so colorful, and I like that I don’t need a huge tank to have a betta and a few schooling fish...

Cycling with Dr. Tim’s Fishless Prescription

I’m open to a fish in cycle. I just remember daily water changes and know I can’t keep that up for the long term, personally and also don’t want to harm the fish. In 24 hours ammonia is down from 4.0 to what I will call 3.0. The color is between 2 and 4 on the API master test kit. Nitrite is...

Cycling with Dr. Tim’s Fishless Prescription

Back to the hobby after a LONG time away. Starting a tank with my 10 year old daughter. She wants a beta, so we are doing a 10g tank. May do a small school of neon tetras or harlequin raspboras as well as some low light plants. Still up in the air on that. We are following Dr. Tim’s...

    2.5 Gal Heater?

I actually found a Hagen Elite Mini Submersible 10 on Amazon for about $12, and it is adjustable just like the one in my big tank, so I will get it set to that 78-80 degree range... Thank again for your help!

    2.5 Gal Heater?

Thanks to both of you. I ordered one from Amazon and will have it shortly. Right now the tank is stable at room temperature (72 in my house right now) and she seems to be doing well. I will do some investigating and determine what the optimal temperature is for her and get the tank to that point.

    2.5 Gal Heater?

So my son comes home from a trip to the store with Grandpa and brought home a 2.5 gallon mini bow aquarium and a betta. The kit has a small filter, but no heater. I am wondering if there is a small heater that anybody could recommend for a tank that small. I have read mixed opinions on...

Aren't plecos and most cories too big for a 20G tank?

    Ph and hardness?

I have a pair of EBRs that I have had since November and my pH is 8.2. I think the quality of the stock you get is most important. The EBRs came from a local breeder. Prior to that I had GBRs that lasted a week. They were not locally bred.

    Which i better? Bolivian-Gold-Blue?

Try telling my rams that... I see from your signature you have a lot of them, but, it might be more accurate to say that YOUR rams aren't. Mine rarely leave the lower levels of my tank, if ever.

    Which i better? Bolivian-Gold-Blue?

I don't have any Africans, so I cannot speak to that. I bought mine locally, hoping that would help them transition to my water. I have a high pH (8.2) and they are doing fine. When they get older, I hope they breed, and may switch to RO water to make breeding more viable, but I will make...

    Whats your impulse buy?

These guys were my impulse buy: IMAG0245 by h2oskierc, on Flickr They were $19.99 each... Together they costed more than most of my setup! But I had never seen Electric Blue Rams before, and they were bred locally, so I figured they would be used to my water. Happened to stop on my lunch...

    Blue Rams Spawned

My water is consistently 8.2. The EBRs seem really happy in it, and as far as I know mine are too young anyway, but RO has interested me for a while, and I would like to go marine some day, so it seems natural to start thinking about it now.

    Blue Rams Spawned

Let me know what you get, what you think of it and if you don't mind the cost. That is something I would like to do. I don't see my EBRs breeding in my current water.

    Blue Rams Spawned

Here are a few links that may have some info for you: Breeding Ram Cichlids Mikrogeophagus ramirezi A few blue ram breeding set-up questions breeding blue rams I haven't totally read through them yet.

    Blue Rams Spawned

Jeta has (does?) bred Rams. He/She knows their stuff... I have read elsewhere that the first couple spawns don't always go right and not to be surprised.

    Swordtails

I believe that does include the "tail" (isn't actually a tail at all, but the male sex organ). Have you been told a 20 is OK? Online there is a lot of different mixed information. Sadly, we bought him before I found out about AA. We will just rehome him. Maybe I will turn my tank into just...

    Swordtails

He seems fine, I just did some digging online, and it looks like they do get to around 4" or so. Wouldn't surprise me if I got bad advice at the LFS I guess... Some places say that a 20G tank is fine, others say that it has to be a 20 Long, and still others say it needs to be larger. Gah...

    Swordtails

I have mine with Neons, guppies, and a pair of Electric Blue Rams and have had no problems at all. He doesn't hide much, if at all, but he isn't an aggressive fish either.

    Swordtails

I have a male Swordtail in my 20 Tall. He usually hangs out at or near the top. The only real exception I have noticed is feeding time.

    Blue Rams Spawned

I believe that the eggs get more transparent as they get closer to wiggling. (Not sure that is the technical term).

Awesome. Congrats! I think the color of the eggs actually changes over time, but I could be wrong.
