How long does it take for Platy or Molly to give birth?

Everything rreekers said is correct. You can also add that when she is ready to give birth she will most likely start either hiding and chasing all the other fish away, especially the male attention, or she will go to the top of the tank and kind of look like she is panting a little. If you are...

    My male betta

yep, as said above, that just means they are happy. You def wouldn't want to get a female anyway unless you researched a lot on how to breed them and had 2 with genes that you really wanted to mate and pass on. A female and male together would literally kill each other. The bubble nest isn't...

Dumbest thing done during a water change?!?!?

Haha! It was SUCH a mess...also, I am a bit of a hypochondriac, so I was all suited up in as much mask and gloves and cover as I could get and freaking out that I was still getting mercury poisoning the whole time. Luckily all turned out OK and I can laugh about the whole thing now, but at the...

    Crabs!

aw, fiddlers are so cute. I used to catch them all the time in the saltwater marshes around my house in Savannah. Are they brackish or SW in the aquarium?

Dumbest thing done during a water change?!?!?

When I first started fish keeping (a few weeks in) I was gravel vacuuming into a bucket and forgot what I was doing, overflowed on to the floor, PANICKED, dropped my hood into my tank thus breaking the bulb containing mercury IN the tank...had to take out all the fish and take out the water and...

Is this balloon molly a boy or girl?

Haha..if she has been around any boys she is most likely "hit" and prego, but mollies tend to eat up all their young they can find, so if you don't want babies just let them get eaten. Free live food. =)

Is this balloon molly a boy or girl?

Yours looks like it is either very pregnant or a balloon molly. That is why it looks so much bigger. Def looks to be a female though.

    Columbia/Lexington, South Carolina

I am also in Lexington SC. I like Fishy Business..although they can be a bit pricey when it comes to Freshwater. If you are looking to start a SW tank they have TONS of stuff though. I am a freshie myself and always on the hunt for a good FW LFS. As a hobbyist I am also always up for buying...

    Snail ID

The first is a ramshorn snail and the other is an MTS..both will reproduce rapidly without the presence of another of their kind. :)

When will my platy give birth?

Like Fishie said, they get much more square when they are about to pop. It almost looks like there is something wrong with them to me because they get so big lol. When she is about to give birth after squaring off she will also most likely start hiding from other fish in the tank or chasing them...

Betta eating all of ghost shrimps wafers

I always had to sit the wafers underneath or near a plant and turn the lights out on my tank since the shrimp will still search it out and eat it but bettas mostly feed/hunt by sight, so they can't track it down as well with the lights off. If that doesn't work you might have to start dividing...

    "Berried Shrimp"

There is some debate over whether or not ghost/glass shrimp babies will survive non brackish water, but some have had success with some types..it really just all depends I think. There isn't anything special you can do other than make sure there is moss for them to hide in and no natural...

    Pregnant platy and guppy!

Liver bearing females can hold sperm for quite a while and will continue to get pregnant after the male is taken from them, so yes they are most likely pregnant again. They will probably give birth sometime between 28 and 32 days after their last labor.

    Fin rot

It would depend on what is causing the fin rot. Is it water conditions or another disease and the fin rot is secondary? You could def QT him to treat him. If the fin rot is not too severe yet you might be able to treat him with just keeping the qt water super clean and adding a little salt. If...

    Betta Fin Rot

Poor George. I would say at that stage of fin rot you might want to try Erythromycin as mentioned above. Be careful as it will kill all your good filter bacteria, so if you can you will want to treat him in QT tank away from your cycled filter. Aside from treatment water change water change...

My female Swordtail had babies, I need advice on how to take care of them!

Ditto to the above. They can do fine on crushed flake, but you can also feed brine shrimp...you could also feed micro worms or vinegar eels if you have them around or other tiny live foods, but it's not necessary. Congrats on the babies. :)

    snails??

That is an MTS..or Malaysian Trumpet Snail. They are pretty nocturnal. They like to stay buried during the day. They are considered a pest snail by many since they multiply quickly and you don't need a male and female..they just reproduce. I personally like having them in my substrate. =) Edit...

My Betta has turned aggresive - anything I can do

I agree with the above. The betta will need to be moved. Female bettas a lot of the time turn bad and then there just isn't any returning them to any sort of friendly behavior. I will also say this though..a lot of bettas cannot be kept with guppies because they see the tails and either see it...

    interesting female guppy behavior

Interesting. I didn't know the females could get away by hanging out with the more attractive guppies. I do know males tend to only bother the fattest (most fertile looking) females. Do you have a link to the study you are talking about?
