    Major renovations

If your putting sand in an empty tank, put a small plate or bowl on the sand and aim the water at that and you'll get little to no clouding. Did it in all my tanks and it works a treat.

    Balanced Aquariums (by request)

To be fair to the OP, he posted this on page 11 Have to say though, I don't think I'll be giving this a shot anytime soon.

    What type of rainbow?

Try rainbowfish.angfaqld.org.au, they have pictures of most species on there. I had a quick look but from the pictures it could have been 2 or 3 different ones. Edit: Seems the problem is solved :D Editing my edit: That looks more like Melanotaenia parkinsoni than fluviatilis to me...

    Shellies

Got my Brevis today yay! Managed to get 1 established pair and the other 2 are possibly already paired. Just waiting for them to come out of hiding so I can try and get a pic :)

    Help ID barb

Looks like it might be a red tailed tin foil (I'm assuming it's a juvie). Is there a chance you might get a better picture?

    Amano shrimp

To be honest I can't seem to find any hard and fast rule as far as salinity for the shrimplets goes. I've seen reports of some successes at a fairly low level and others who had to go to full marine. I reckon that if I raise the level after each failed attempt, I should hit paydirt at some point...

One of my CPDs is broken. :(

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this video was an under-developed swim bladder. My reasoning behind this is oddly the SAE (Crossocheilus siamensis) which has a very under-developed/non existent swim bladder and must be in constant motion otherwise it sinks. To be fair, this is...

    Algae Eaters?

Shhhhhhh.......no one else noticed lol I wouldn't mind but I corrected 3 other typos

    Algae Eaters?

It sort of like a British version of "Viola!" . The whole "two nations separated by a common language" thing is one of the things I like most about this forum, terminology and my personal favourite is when the same word means two completely different things :D Back to the matter in hand though...

    Algae Eaters?

I have 4 in mine, however I bought them because they were fun, not to clean my tank (which has never really had a lot of algae as it goes), but Lynda is right, you shouldn't really buy livestock to fix the problem. If you have algae there is a reason and that should be addressed first. In the...

    Amano shrimp

Well the first attempt (and the second) were a washout :( Now on attempt number 3 and this time I've upped the salinity from 1.005 to 1.007. Fingers crossed.

    Algae Eaters?

+1 on the Amano Shrimp. I have some in my 10g and they keep on top of it pretty well. I moved one a few weeks ago (she was carrying eggs) into my empty 5g that had been newly planted and had a pretty impressive bloom of algae and she nommed the lot, the tank was spotless after a couple of days...

    Shellies

Cools, a handful of water lettuce will certainly find it's way in there. Also it turns out that water lettuce is pretty native to that area (well Nile and Lake Victoria) so I could call it a biotope of sorts :D Going back to the lfs tomorrow to get some more rock, I'm thinking that the look...

    Shellies

Oh and one more thing, whilst I don't want to plant this tank (because of the whole digging up thing which I know will annoy me and also this will be my only non-planted tank, the others have loads) would these guys appreciate floating plants or do they prefer just open water? I have a ton of...

    Shellies

Yipes! Scratch that as clearly a bad idea :) I went back to the lfs today to have another look at the Brevis and this time I clocked the price tag, £16 ($25) per fish! So 2 pairs it is, lol. Set up the tank today so just waiting for the ph to stabilise and I should be good to get some of these...

Suddenly realised that I probably should have put this in the cichlid section. Please could a friendly neighbourhood mod move it please?

    Shellies

Ok, I have a 55l (about 15usg measures 24"x 12"x 12") and after much searching and researching decided that I would like to put in some shellies (my water is pretty darned hard so they seemed an ideal choice). So, to date I have: sand for the substrate, some rocks, a truck load of shells (apple...

    UK?

Booooo. I live not far away either, just outside Oxford. I can concur with Maidenhead Aquatics. I've not been to the Newbury one but I have been to both the ones in Oxford, the one in Wendover and the one near Milton Keynes and they've all been excellent. I can also recommend Coxwell Aquatics...

    Pimafix Dosing Question

My kutubus showed what I thought was fungus on their lower lip. After some interwebbing and a chat with the breeder I discovered that it was just from a bit of scrapping. Take care of your water and it should all be fine. As had been said, it is definatly all worth it when you see that amazing...

I need to pick some brains

Boo back to the search for shellies it is then. Well until I can get a green light from the old fart to get another big tank. Thanks for your help, much appreciated

I need to pick some brains

Grr I had a feeling that that might be the case. This makes me a bit sad. Is it possible that a single pair or 1m and 2/3f could be kept in the 105l as long as move the holding female/s into a seperate tank? From what I have read the males only really get narky with unresponsive/holding females...
