Hey, I'm new to this, but 65% water change? I know these fish need clean water, but that sound very stressful.

Why permanent? Just Weight it with rocks or something!:)

In my humble opinion, soaked enough, it stays down.. Soak it for at least a week!! Changing the water. I wasn't so patient.. but that was the advice I got.

My tank was set up in an emergency... the filters, gravel etc were used,(rinsed, but defo not washed.) and I put in "Cycle." I know this is bad, but leaving my fish as they were was worse.. The Discus were a greedy buy..:oops I am still learning, and my impulsiveness does NOT help:oops...

Carbon also isn't normally necessary unless you are removing meds, so you can consider just buying a sheet of filter media that you cut to size and stick in it's place to save some $. Just keep doing pwc's with Prime to keep levels as low as possible until the tank re-stabilizes. Fantastic...

I have found,(In my limited experience) that Plecos poop more than they clean! Esp as you need to supplement their diet. Go-Go Shrimp!! (Get it before it is algae!) Ok..My Ottos do a great job tho..

If your house temp exceeds your tank temp, it is gonna get hot. I really am not being patronising, but u live in Utah, and if your A/C is off whilst you are at work, surely your tank is going to get hot.

Hey, from the UK!!! 25 degrees here!!! (What's the conversion??) We're having spooky hot weather, then big drops in the winter.. FINALLY, people in the UK are taking the sun seriously, and using cream rather than baking themselves to lobster colour!
