I noticed since I lowered the salinity, there is a lot of brown algae growing on the glass and my rocks look darker then before. Why is this? I thought getting my salinity down to where it is suppose to be was better then leaving it too high.

I recently bought a refractometer and noticed my salinity level was almost 1.030. So I lowered it to 1.025, and now all of my corals have been closed for the past week but my fish are doing great. Are my corals in shock or something?

They have been closed up for a few weeks. When I moved them to the bottom I noticed some of the polyps are gone. I'm not sure what's going on but I hope this doesn't happen to the rest of my polyps.

I moved the zoo rock from half way up to the bottom of the tank also. Maybe too much light for them. (96w T5)

I'm not sure. But I ran out of my nitrate kit and I'm not 100% sure where my nitrates are so I did a 35% water change to see if that helps.

I didn't add them, I guess they came on the live rock and corals and just multiplied. But I'm thinking of getting a mandarin dragonet to keep them under control. Is that a good idea, and what are other fish that eat them?

I just don't understand how the rocks do the filtering a hang on filter with a filter pad would do.

Some people don't use any type of filter at all on a reef tank. Why is this, and is it recommended?

Can you, and how do you make a sump for a tank that is not made to have one? I have an older tank and it does not have an over flow or anything. I wanted to start a small sump and put some frags in there with a light and start growing frags? Is this possible?

Yea I dint want dark blue all the time. Just a little more blue. Like you said, I hate the yellowish hue. I just doesn't do the tank justice. I'll see if I could find those bulbs your talking about.

I have 4 24w T5 bulbs. 2 actinic and 2 10,000k. I was also thinking of changing out the 10,000k for 20,000k. Is it ok to run just actinic lights so the colors on my corals show better? Or is there another way to get my corals color to pop? Also will the corals grow if I only run actinic? I just have zoo's, mushrooms, GSP and leathers.

Yes. Each bulb has there own reflector. So does this mean I can keep corals that require high light like clams and acropora?
