    Julidochromis and P. demasoni?

Hello, So a friend of mine (aka my LFS) has some julidochromis and demasoni in the same tank all of them are juvenile. I've been reading a little about this combination, but some articles mention that they should not be mixed while others say that julidochromis do well with other fish. Now my...

redoing my 55 gal. suggestions, help, comments??!?!

You can always use aqadvisor.com. There you can answer a couple of questions about your set up and it will give you a general idea of your stocking level, filtration capacity , and other information such as compatibility of species you want to keep, m:f ratio, water parameters, etc.

    200litre Malawi

Question, is that tank drilled? every time I look at one tank from the UK or canada with a fluval filter, the inlet seems to come from the bottom of the tank.

    200litre Malawi

Hello Emmamc91, The tank looks pretty cool, but I would definitely keep an eye on the GBR and the P. demasoni. Demasoni can be very aggressive and in my experience GBRs are very delicate and not as aggressive. @Freakgecko91 I don't see any fish that looks like convicts in those pictures

How can i make my own black water?

I Haven't used "JBL peat pellets" but they should work, (I have used the ones from fluval and regular peat moss from home depot) and If you are going to boil the water I don't think that you need to add any stress coat, besides you are not going to boil several gallons of water, are you? . What...

redoing my 55 gal. suggestions, help, comments??!?!

IME most plants and africans don't mix if you have anything in the substrate they will uproot it. As I said before cichlids love to dig. The only plants that I would add to cichlid tank are anubias and/or ferns, but if you have vegetarian cichlids (most mbunas) they will also devour some of...

What do you guys think of 3D tank backgrounds?

your inlet is behind the wall but your spray bar or outlet needs to have an opening otherwise you will have no circulation at all. I can't post a picture right now since the background is installed in my brother's tank, but I'll try too post one sometime this week, or just google it there are...

What do you guys think of 3D tank backgrounds?

you glue it to the sides of the tank of that way you can use all the space that is left behind to hide the heater, filter, CO2 diffuser and anything else you have; it does reduce circulation but if you install it properly it can be minimized.

I would also rehome the pleco if it is a common one and if you really like plecos just get a bristlenose or bushy nose pleco they are smaller. I thought that striped peacock eels get 18" + don't they? Angelfish are also cichlids, so you have to decide if you want africans or south americans...

    The Jello Method co2

That's how bacteria are grow in labs, we use gelatin like material (agarose) with the nutrients needed and let the bacteria divide. so that should also work, I have a couple of questions though. will the gelatin melt at room temperature, and if so what's the purpose of allowing it to solidify to...

Woukd this sock be acting as a filter?

The sock may have some bacteria growing on it so as the bacteria grow they will consume some of the nitrogenous waste (ammonia) in your tank, but if the water is not passing directly through the sock I don't think that it is making a huge difference. It will be like having a decoration in your...

What do you guys think of 3D tank backgrounds?

If you can afford it go for it, I think that both the amazon and the rocks (2nd & 3rd picture) look awesome; besides you don't have to wait after you have installed it to add your fish. The DIY pathway is fun if you have the time but it also can get a little frustrating when you don't get the...

    205 vs 206

The 206 is basically the newer version of the 205, they're both rated for up to 40 gallons. I don't know how much you are going to pay for it, but if it is in the 80-90 range I would get a 305 on amazon for 89.95 ($3 more expensive than the 205) and you get a 3-year warranty. I have a 306 and...

    Ammonia from walmart

librarygirl: No, they didn't have pure ammonia. I'm going to try a different store tomorrow, at least now I know what it looks like. Deep Seven: Yeah I knew about the bubbles the reason why I decided to ask first was because when I tried it didn't make any. Thank you!

    Ammonia from walmart

Well that's the thing in the ingredients it says that it has Ammonium hydroxide (which is just ammonia) and surfactant. So I guess that the real question is, will the surfactant cause any harm or is it just something common in the other brands of ammonia?

    Ammonia from walmart

Hello, I'm going to cycle a new tank for my P. demasoni and I was wondering if it was ok to use ammonia from walmart. I will be adding media from my other tanks to speed up the cycle, but since I have never bought ammonia before I don't know where to get it. I went to ace hardware today but...

should i hang onto this hob filter?

I think that you should get a new filter, with the money you are going to spend in cartridges , bio wheels, and super glue you can get a new filter, 29.99 plus free shipping n amazon, and use the one you have for parts. Edit: You can "superglue the crack" but no one can guarantee you that it...

PH High even with RO water

To be honest I think that it is easier to add x number of spoons or ml of a commercial buffer to x gallons of water rather than start mixing and measuring the pH. Sure once you have done it the first couple of times you know exactly how many gallons or liters you need of each, but if you are...
