Need to know how to set up my filter

Gonna need more info than that in order to help you in this endeavor. Do you have a brand or model number? Are you sure it is HOB? What color is it, shape, etc?

Hanna checkers are a wonderful tool if you're colorblind.

Do you have to use the recomended amount of live rock?

As long as the rock is fully cured you shouldn't have a problem doing that.

Do you have to use the recomended amount of live rock?

You can use 1 pound of LR if that's what you want to do.

    whats your favorite saltwater fish?

I like the carpenter and clown wrasses. Clownfish are my most beloved fish I mean they have great personalities, and are still gorgeous after all this time keeping them. Can't imagine having a tank w/o clowns.

    frogspawn coral not opening

Might want to consider a test kit ASAP. You need to know the parameters of your water in order to effectively recreate a marine environment. JMO.

    Coral beauty & Flame Angel?

My experience has been that the two will not mix well. I was told by my Lfs that, if introduced at the same time, they would be able to coexist. The flame angel was dead two weeks later and the coral beauty still rules the tank. I think that their personalities are what dictate them being able...

    Fluorite or eco complete?

I use peagravel and dose with the seachem flourish once a week and my plants are growing out of my tank. Call me old fashioned, but I don't really get into the substrates, co2, etc. I use what has always worked best for me, good lighting, frequent pwc's, and good ol mother time takes her course...

    Flame angel and coral beauty

Anyone know if these two could live harmoniously in the same tank if introduced at the same time? Thanks for any advice.

    Dave's cadlights 39g build

I like the coralife super skimmers. Im not using one rt now but have had good success with it. I would steer way clear of any skimmer/filter combo( sometimes called a skilter) or the seaclone skimmers.

    Coral growth

Depends on what kind of sps, are you using ro/di, dosing the tank, etc etc. I can only give you my experience(I dose and use ro h2o), but I have some montipora and birdsnest right now and have seen significant growth in the two months I have had them. I was out of town since Sunday and came back...

    Adding lighting.

I've got a question. In my reef tank(24x24x24 60 gallon cube) i am rocking marineland reef capable LEDs. Nothing special. I've got some basic livestock....montiporas, birdsnest, a few leathers, some star polyps and zoas. The LEDs are ok as far as light goes, but there are a lot of spots in the...

    Jewel Cichlids

At 3-4 inches you could have one fish in your ten gallon for a month or so and then it's time to upgrade to larger quarters. Something like a long 55 gallon would be perfect. I've never been able to tell the sex of them. Good luck to you.
