Today I added substrate (coco coir, peat moss, orchid bark, sand, charcoal) and started planting the 'land'. I really like how it's coming together! Next step is a diy filter, getting the waterfall going and filling with water.
I'm far from an expert. It depends on what you plan to keep. You can use glass or acrylic dividers or build up hardscape to create a land mass. I wanted an area that wouldn't be constantly wet so I could plant an assortment of my house plants. I stalked dendroboard for ideas then made it up to...
Turned the tank on its side and siliconed the platform to the glass. Once it was set enough not to move, I turned it right ways up and arranged the lava rock and branches. I used the spray foam to fill the gaps. As usual, I ran out. Will have to get some more. I will let this lot cure overnight...
I used the floor panels, mesh pots and zip ties to construct the main shape of the platform. It took many hours and heaps of changes before I was happy with it. It is going to sit just about the waterline to allow the plants somewhere to grow without getting waterlogged.
I left a large space...
First thing was to clean up the tank. It's been sitting around for years so needed a lot of work to clean up. I used white vinegar, water and razor blades to get most of the hard water deposits off.
Hi guys. It's been a while since I've been here. I'm building a paludarium as a little project over the school holidays and I thought I'd document the process. It's been years since I did a proper tank build so bare with me.
So far we have:
2ft tank - haven't measured it but just by...
Thanks. Was contacted and it's sorted. I had been contacting the help desk for the two years prior and was told it was taken care of. Only took a post on the forum to get the real answer. Lol. Anyway. I enjoyed my time on the forum and found it great but can't continue to pay for something I...
Yeah I stalk aquariumlife but don't post often. Its good for getting info on Australian things. Its better for planted tank stuff than QLDAF is. QLDAF is a joke IMHO.
Thanks. I had ellioti but I sold them and got those big guys you can see in the new photos. They where sold as geophagus...
Its very simple. Its a $50 4ft double T8 shop light with 6500K (cool/daylight) bulbs. They grew low light plants quite well. Its screwed into some metal guttering and there is some reflective tape on the inside. I think it was used for insulating. It served its purpose and worked well but it...
Thank you. Sorry for the late reply I dont come on here often anymore. There is an overflow box on each back corner of the tank. Two drains in the outflow and one on the in. There should be pics on the first or second page of this thread.
If all the products are fish safe then I can't see a...
Picked these guys up yesterday for an absolute steal. The guy bought them as surinamensis so thats what I bought them as. I read surinamensis aren't in Australia and that they are most likely brachybranchus. I don't mind what they are I like them anyway but it would be nice to know what I've...
The perks of having an other half that keeps large colonies of awesome fish is spare males for display tanks. :D This is one of the tanks in our lounge room. Its a 270L sunsun with male leptosoma kitumba, gold comps, speciosus and a lone male ornatipinnis.
