Hey, it sounds like you have a good setup for her, I'm sure the noises are her just trying to escape! My turtles like to bury themselves, climb on the side of the tank, constantly head-but the glass when you stare at the tank like they want to get away. Don't be worried it is just her...
I have wild green neon tetra, do a quick google for pics, but they are very blue when healthy, regardless of the name, you can have a largish school as they only get to around 1",1.5" at most but that would be a large one. They look awesome when swimming and playing in groups.
Looking good. I'd leave it for 24-48 hours just to be sure, being over cautious about gallons of water on my floor. :) looks good and can't wait to see what you do with it.
If your going to start with four tanks, the start up would be a little pricey compared to a normal one tank start up. Managing all those tanks when your new to the hobby is probably what is keeping you tethered to your LFS, but once you have them balanced and everything settled and you have used...
In the uk we would pay £300 for a decent tank let alone filters, heaters and stand etc. A 55 here would set you back £3-400 for a shop brought tank. My 95litre cost £100, so I'd take a deal like that over here if there were any.
Yeah they potentially could if they wanted to, they have a hard hit, but I doubt they would have any reason to hit the glass at full pelt. The bottom of the tank could be a target as they burrow so one may get to the bottom and try hit it, but again in all likely-hood they won't but it is a...
I've recently found this and I'm loving it, it's such an awesome idea. I have seen none in the uk so far, but the i see it's a new craze over the water, please share any pics you find. It's such a fresh idea and the effect is awesome.
I think the problem you have is not many people are going to recommend fish because of the turts, obviously they may be eaten so people are reluctant to suggest future turtle food. However if your determined to have fish with them then I'd suggest fast moving fish that are larger than the...
Crypts are known to be tough to move around, and are prone to melt when moved. They should be fine and should come back strong. Root tabs will help them re-establish.
A good example of this is how rhubarb is grown or "forced". If your interested in the method and results google rhubarb growing especially in the uk, we have a "rhubarb triangle" where large amounts are "forced" by having a high light period then complete dark periods which force the plant to...
I was hoping to keep the soil from the pot separate from water in the tank because of leeching tannins, and the water line would mean a constant soaking for the soil, but I'm thinking some sort of snorkel to allow some gas exchange, I think if there was a ring of small tubing sitting at the...
Sorry, been so busy recently with work I have not had time to update, but basically because of the humidity and I assume lack of drainage for bottom water, the grass was growing but the soil wAs starting to go stagnant, and the roots were just rotting rather than growing deeper, so I have...
I have musks and they are know to never bask, literally but I still provide a basking area. They might not use it when your looking or even use it to sit on for periods of time, but the heat zone is what your creating so they can get variations in temp. Even if they were to sit on it at the...
Also sorry turtles use a basking Area to regulate their body temp as they cannot do this by sweating, this means they need access to it all the time incase they get cold, so a once a day in the garden is only really providing a small percentage of the UVA and uvb they need, UVA helps them...
Your turtles will need a 40-60 gallon each to grow properly. You also need specialist equipment to keep them healthy long term such as a UVB light, and yes a basking area also. A hex tank is really a bad shape for turtle as they require swimming room. A shallower longer tank would be more...
They make heater guards for reptiles and aquatic turtles. Like a plastic cover that the heater sits in to stop them touching it and burning themselves. I don't know the manufacturer but look for guards for amphibians I'm sure ull find them.
What about water wisteria, hygrophilia deformalis? grows in virtually any condition, high light/low light, co2, no co2, ferts, no ferts, whatever. It grows quickly and if pruned properly can be really bushy and effective.
That's awesome, I'd love to watch that. I'm so happy they are getting on well and settled in. They do love those meil worms dont they, they are like turtle-nip. Lol. Glad they are giving u some good times!
