    FX5 and Pond Matrix

I currently have two FX 5s on my 350g. The tank is filled with bio rings in the middle all the trays and foam around the outer circle. I'm adding to my bio filtration by purchasing a 3rd fx5 (fx 6) and filling the center of each basket with pond matrix. Would it be ok to remove the outer foam...

Planted tank (plants only) as a filter

Thanks for all the replies. This site is great. I'll look into all the info and let you all know what I decide. I also may place the filter tank above my main tank (some how) so that I don't have to worry about my main tank draining if the pump goes out. This is the main reason I never went...

Planted tank (plants only) as a filter

Hello all, I plan on using a planted tank (plants only) as a nitrate filter for my main tank. I'm going to use a small pump to get water from my main tank to the panted tank and back to my main tank. My main tank is 340 gallons. How large would the planted tank need to be in order for this to...

    Mixing different types of food

Rather than feed my fish flakes on one day, then pellets the next day, then brine shrimp on another day, etc. Is it ok the simply take a large container and mix flakes and pellets, and what ever else you choose, then feed them the cocktail daily? Thanks

    lowering rocks into fish tank

I just purchased several large rocks (20+ lbs each) for my existing 340gal african cichlid tank. My tank is about 32in high. What can I use to safely lower the rocks onto my tank? Note: tank is up and running and fully stocked. Thanks

    id these african mbuma cichlids

Sorry for the bad pics. I have yellow labs and they look different from this fish. He/she doesn't have the usual black line on the edge of the top fin and it's body shape is different more like the fish in the 2nd pic. The fish in the second pic is definitely an albino of some sort as it has...

    Adding Crushed Coral......How Much?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have 2 canister filters (FX5s). Forgot to mention (didn't think it was relevant) that I have a pump within the overflow (for my UV) which circulates the water to the other side of the tank.

    Adding Crushed Coral......How Much?

Hello, I have a 340 gallon African tank. I'm adding crushed coral to raise the pH. Since the tank is so large I purchased a 12" x 15" filter media bag and place the crushed coral in there). I have a very large unused overflow box on my tank (plugged/filled) so I placed the bag of coral in...
