it shouldn't go bad as far as i know unless you use it in the filter. only after that it goes bad after 1 month. one more thing to keep in mind is that IMO, carbon is a waste of money unless you're removing medication.

active carbon goes bad after a month usage in water. sorry

Zeo-Carb removes ammonia chemically, also carbon goes bad after a month.

Go with Rena Filstar Xp series...heard you can't go wrong with them and they're better then Fluval and comparable to Eheims

If its the white bloom, you are overfeeding your fishies. If its green bloom, hope somebody else can chip in as I dont know much about the green bloom 0X
