I changed my filter cartridge today and noticed Shrimp like creatures living in the filter.... Any thoughts of what theses things are? How did I get them? Are they bad for the tank? This is a fresh water tank.

Well I got board and didnt want to spend 150 bucks on a stand. So I went to the garage and found some scrap lumber and began building.... overall it cost me 40 bucks and about 6 hours. No plans just wung it... Although I do still have to stain the doors
I have never tested it until this incident. Its 8.2 at least the day I tested it was. I have city water so I would assume its consistant..
Which leads me to another question.. If im using water that is 8.2 how/why is my PH always 7.4.. hmmmmm
my water changes are every two weeks. I test my water weekly and use the same bucket to transfer water. I would say no on the contamination factor but I guess it could happen. My tank is covered so it would be hard but not impossible.

things have seem to level out and my PH is back to 7.4 and holding. Still not able to find the root cause of the spike.
I am wondering if I had something on my arm and when I put in the plant and decor it contaminated my water...
