    My new 25l tank

My favorite small fw puffer is the Amazon puffer, aka Brazilian aka Peruvian puffer. They don't ever need brackish water and are the only puffer I know of that likes to be with its own kind.

Oh, and as for the "2ft wide 14inch deep and 14inch high", those are just the dimensions and means you have a 20 gallon aquarium. They aren't anything to worry about really.

Ah I see. Sorry about that then. What we're talking about then is substrate. The basic answer is, it doesn't matter what kind you get. However, if you decide to get a fish that likes to burrow in the sand, like my fahaka puffer does, gravel could damage him, and sand would be more appropriate...

    Feeding Betta fish and plecos

Boiling does affect it a bit from the nutrients either being neutralized, or released into the surrounding water. I don't leave it in very long though, and only in a tiny amount of water in a small bowl. It's just to soften it a bit. I was trying to be creative to get it to sink, but like the...

    pregnant platty yes or no?

This is fun. I'm waiting for my platys to decide to have babies. Guppies, on the other hand, just can't seem to stop popping them out.

    Electricity problems? Fish safety?

Taking an empty 2-liter bottle, filling it with the tank water, and dumping it back in from a height can slightly help to aerate your tank, depending on the size.

Help water temp. Is 90 degrees

You can do the water bottles, or if you already have ice cubes available, put them in a baggie and put them in the tank. There are water chillers available, but they are large, expensive, and obnoxious. Might be something to look at though. There are fans that have built in air conditioners you...

    Feeding Betta fish and plecos

That's a really good idea. I have always just boiled them so they sink. I agree that the betta needs high quality flake food, with blood worms maybe being fed once or twice a week. Algae wafers work wonders for my hungry plecos.

Hey no problem at all. I'm just happy to help. What do you mean by floor base? Do you mean what the base of the aquarium is made from, the stand, or the actual floor? If I understand your question right, then the base doesn't really matter as long as it can hold the weight of the filled...

    Feeder shrimp?? Dwarf puffer??

They may love the taste of algae wafers, but need more nutrition from scavenging fish flakes/pellets. If they will be feeders, whatever you can get them to eat besides algae will help them to be more nutritious. They also like to eat their own fry that hatch if they are too crowded, so be aware...

    Khongo river puffer rehab

Yeah, that would be a good thing to make sure of. Congos are generally a reddish-brown.

There are many plants that you can have in a freshwater tank. Some come in very beautiful colors too, such as deep red, purple, or even bluish hues. If you go to google images and type in "planted tank", you can see many examples of beautiful plants available for freshwater aquariums. These...

... and a love for all things FISH!

Thanks for the welcome! It sounds like you have your own animal rescue experience! My wife and I have basically been doing the same thing. Sometimes it's a stray dog or rabbit that has obviously lost its home for some time. Sometimes we see and ad on KSL or elsewhere, one of the "has to go...

    I've made ALL the mistakes!

You can always get the API Master Kit on eBay for around $20 free shipping. The master kits really are the best way to go as, like someone else mentioned, the test strips really aren't up to par.

Clownfish are great! My honest suggestion, however, would be to go with freshwater, at least to start. Saltwater is generally for very experienced aquarists, as it tends to be more expensive, has strict ph, salt, ammonia, nitrate, etc. requirements. Both FW and SW would require a heater, great...

    Kissing Gourami Eating

They are omnivores, so like a little bit of variety in their diet. I have had many different gourami, and while they do seem to enjoy tropical flake food, their absolute favorite has always seemed to be algae wafers and other vegies. I will break up an algae wafer into a few pieces twice a day...

... and a love for all things FISH!

Hi all! My wife and I have been running an animal rescue out of our home for over 4 years now. My expertise lies in animal behavior, although I'm a teacher/pilot by profession. I've been a fish enthusiast for my entire life, starting with my first feeder goldfish at age 5, which lasted an...

    fahaka puffer

Fahaka Puffers get quite large. Even though it has been awhile, I hope your fahaka friend is doing well. I have my fahaka in a 125 gallon, and sometimes I think even that is too small for him. Mine is currently 12", but they are supposed to be able to grow close to 1 1/2 feet. As long as he has...
